  1. You can fast-forward to minute 19 to skip all of my searching to try to figure out which star is SN 2023ixf (haha):
  2. Finally - a clear night in the forecast. I'm hoping to live stream this supernova! (and dozens of other deep-space objects) tomorrow (Friday) night from 11:15pm until 1:15am ET. Join us 'live' at the eyepiece. Just tune in at https://www.youtube.com/@EmeraldHillsSkies . This time, we'll be observing literally from out beside the telescope. Temperatures are warm - and we need to fine-tune some adjustments anyway. We'll flood the base of the observatory with just enough light for the live-stream and we hope it'll feel like you are right there beside us. Join us in the observatory Friday night!
  3. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh thanks. This way, I didn't have to put in the "Tschshinshan," which is dropped in the nomenclature importing into Stellarium Thank you!
  4. @Mr Magoo, would you be so kind to tell me how this was possible? In the MPC, I'm not finding orbital elements yet for this comet. I wonder what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
  5. Hello gang. Here's Comet C/2023 e3 (ztf) via EEVA (attached) and via a YouTube video. If you'd like to skip to near the end of the video, you can bypass all my attempts to get the settings right. hahaha
  6. I'm back on the Caldwell List tonight - starting at 9pm ET... just 25 minutes from now. I guess it's my 100th observing session -- and my 150th video recording. I sure hope that means that at least SOME muscle memory should be kicking in soon, right? : )
  7. Hello! Join us for back-to-back observing nights. See exactly what I'm seeing through our 11-inch RASA telescope. Tomorrow night, Wednesday, Nov. 30th, 10:30pm to 12:30am, find us at https://youtu.be/v_q6pAW8j7I when we pursue the next 10 objects in Steve O'Meara's Secret Deep list. Then Thursday night, Dec. 1st, join us from 9pm to 11pm at this link: https://youtu.be/dcle00zsUKo when we revisit the Caldwell List for the next 10 objects in that catalog. Feel free to stop by for just 2 minutes - or stay the entire two hours. Learn more about our observatory by visiting https://emeraldhillsskies.com/. You can also view dozens and dozens of past video live-streams at https://www.youtube.com/@EmeraldHillsSkies/streams Thanks for joining us in the EAA journey at Emerald Hills Skies! Doug
  8. [updated] rats. Clouded out tonight. We'll have to reschedule. Please forgive. You're invited! Join me tonight, XXXXXXXXXX simply by clicking to the following URL: https://youtu.be/12HKxDpcAio
  9. [Updated due to weather]: Join me Wednesday night, Oct. 19, 9:00 to 11pm ET, as we continue our journey through "The Secret Deep."
  10. Dave, thanks so much for encouraging a fellow-struggler! Astronomy USED to be a rather lonely place. Now it feels like a team sport! Let’s keep learning together!!! Doug
  11. Having "caught up" with all the objects visible in this season for the Caldwell List, the Herschel 400, and the Hidden Treasures list, would you join me as we work our way through "The Secret Deep," a list of deep-sky objects curated by Stephen James O'Meara? This is a recording of the opening session.
  12. Here's a 90-minute video in which I deep-dive into what I'm learning about Deep-Sky Planner 8 by Knightware. The entire video is set up as an observing session (utilizing Electronically Assisted Astronomy), but demonstrating what I'm learning about the software. Hats off to Phyllis. (As I say in the video, I bought my copy with my own money. There are no kickbacks.)
  13. You're invited! Join me Friday night (Oct. 7, 9-11pm ET) as we continue our journey through Steve O'Meara's list of "Hidden Treasures." We'll be using an 11-inch RASA Telescope in a Pier-Tech TS2 observatory on the outskirts of Louisville, Kentucky. We'd love to have you stop by, whether for 2 minutes or the whole 2 hours. To take part in the observing session and see the objects in real-time with me, just join me by clicking directly to Remember, you can view our progress on the three deep-sky object catalogs that we're pursuing at https://emeraldhillsskies.com/resources/ . So far, with Hidden Treasures, we've observed 45 out of 109 objects. We have 64 targets to go.
