  1. Hi That is defiantly the belts i had the same sound. Try cycling through DEC and RA with the clutch disengaged, you will need to go around in both directions a couple of times. It cleared for me. However then I discovered the enormous backlash variation. I am not sure what I will do now as this is the second mount with a very high backlash. Dave
  2. Hi, I bought the same mount, I found I had to cycle through both the Dec and RA in both directions, the clicking noise may be the belt teeth not meshing properly, I must confess I am a little surprised that this mount is so problematic when you consider the cost, I cycled the DEC and RA in both directions a couple of times and the clicking stopped, however I have found another more concerning issue, I ran the Guide assistant in PHD2, I am getting a DEC backlash that is unbelievable, values ranging from 15000 ms to 17500 ms, this was my last attempt: This is my set up so I should not be getting these problems: I am not sure where your problem lies but for the cost of this mount I am a little surprised, my mount has already been replaced once and I have the same issue, I would be intrigued to know if you get the same backlash issue. I would appreciate it if you could let me know. Dave
  3. I do use plate solving, it does not help the backlash, the movement amount to correct will mean there will be no correction as it will always remain in the backlash zone, the scope simply cannot correct it self. I use NINA. But the backlash on a brand new mount should not be this far out, my AVX was better. Cheers David
  4. Hi Gents, I am having the same problem, I recently bought a brand new EQ8R Pro and I am having nothing but issues with the Dec axis guidance, I am struggling with the guidance, something I did not expect from a mount in this price range, this is the second mount I have received since I bought it a month ago. I carried out a guide assist in PHD2 and the dec backlash was horrendous 15850 My polar alignment was perfect, I used both SharpCap and Nina and my alignment was excellent in both, i followed the instructions given by PHD2 and changed dec guidance, I tried both North and South still did not work, during Guide assistant I could see that the star did not move for at least 36 of the 76 pulses when returning the star to the cross hair, This problem is consistent, i spent all of last night trying to get this working, I am a little at a loss. I would love some help if anyone can advise I would be very grateful. David

  6. Hi everyone, I have recently been heavily involved with this subject, I recently bought an EQ8R pro, but I have been predominantly a celestron user. There is very little information out there about mixing systems, I did after a lot of trial and error get my starsense to work with the skywatcher, but the WiFi module does not work. I have found the program from skywatcher to be very primitive, I have found for the starsense I must retain the use of the handset, I have tried many programs like celestrons sky portal, stellarium, and NINA, none of them point accurately, they are always off, not by much but enough to make life difficult, the handset hits the mark every time, They all work but there seems to be some kind of offset difference. I now use gs server with nina, but still use the handset to find my targets, the tradeoff is worth it, starsense saves me a huge amount of time, setting up is really quick. I found I did need some patience but it works, but finally I can confirm celestrons WiFi does not work, it will not recognise the scope mount.
  7. Hi Everyone, I am new to the Stargazer lounge I am hoping someone may be able to help. I am struggling with my backlash adjustment on my scope, I am using an 8" Celestron SC Advanced VX, I am hooked into a Pegasus power-box ultimate and using a Pegasus focus cube. I am trying to set up the autofocus in NINA, I cant get is to run properly, I am starting to wonder if there is to much backlash in the scope focus rather than focus cube. Has anyone had any experience with this setup, if anyone can recommend some approximate settings as a starting point which I can refine from. Any assistance would greatly appreciated. Cheers Dave
  8. Hi all, Just a couple of words to say hi, I am new to the forum but not new to astronomy, I would however still consider myself a novice and would very much be grateful of any future assistance. And I do regularly get issues. I have just completed the build of my half roof off shed observatory which I am really pleased with, and highly recommend people try if they can, it has increased my observation time. I look forward to reading everyone's comments and experiences. Regards David
