@redfox1971 I believe I had it in when I set mine up, to be honest it doesn't matter if it's fully in or out as you can change the direction of travel in the software. Just make sure it's not fully in or out when you set the 0 position, that way if there's an issue it will stop before the full travel of the focusser so you don't damage the EAF.

    Thanks D.

  2. Before i mount my zwo eaf electronic focuser to my refractor zwo says to For the standard bracket installation The 0 position is recommended to be set to the position when the focuser is fully retracted? so is this when focus is all the way in to the telescope or when the tube is drawn all the way back? then i would need to zero the postion in the ascom driver?.

  3. Been trying to contact Williams optics via there email link for the last couple of weeks but never seem to get a reply from them,it seems they just cant be bothered to answer emails even if they cant help, very poor service has anybody had problems with there customer service lately.

I saw it too, a bit bigger than the full moon. Slightly W of due N, it had a bight centre and a diffuse ring around it. Just chanced to look up, it looked a bit like the moon might through heavy haze but the bins showed the bright central point.

    yep sounds right.

  5. All I can say about the QHY8L is mine lasted about a year sent it back to China it was cheaper to send it there than to have it returned, anyway it lasted about 8months went wrong again something to do with the readout chip,so now just gathering dust in cupboard,I did email them other day about how much a new circuit board would be and fit myself, board would cost 110usd then import charges etc on top so how much total would be wouldn't like to say,so that's put me off all qhy stuff now,zwo all the way my asi1600 now 3 years old.

Well I was worried about astigmatisum but you will be glad to know that the scope itself looks ok, although you do have slightly pinched ppitics causing the four gaps in your star halo, but I dont think this would be causing the effect you are seeing on the mask spike.

As the effect is only present on the Lum channel I think that we can atribute it to chromatic aberation in the lens. If you have ever used a mask with a OSC camera you would have seen a rainbow effect progressing along each of the diffraction spikes. Like this:

Question about using a Bahtinov mask - Beginning Deep Sky Imaging - Cloudy Nights

You will notice that the same pattern is present here as in your mono image, but here we see the RGB elements,, your lum shot still contains those elements its just not apparent in mono that this is the case non the less. Green in the middle and Red / Blue either side. The degree of lateral spread in those i.e how twisted they appear is relative to the amount of Chromatic aberation within the imaging scope. You are essentially seeing that the green is in the centre and that the blue and red are shifted slightly away from perfect focus to either side green.

In contrast in a better corrected scope you may see something more like this:

Amazon.com : Astromania Bahtinov Mask Focusing Mask for Telescopes - FM120mm for a Tube Outer Diameter (OD) from 125mm-180mm - can be Mounted with The Brass Screws Inside or Outside The drawtube :

Despite this I would not say that this means the scope is badly corrected its just not fully corrected.

Thanks for the explanation Adam when williams optics made this model scope they made lots of promises about the quality and a lot of people were let down, having five elements may not help, maybe ok with a dslr but when using filters halos are a problem thanks again.

I dont think its the ASI1600mm pro sensor cover glass. Never seen anything like that before. What exact filters and scope are you using?

Also would be useful to see a stack of a completed Lum filter and RGB as seperate channels if possible. I have a feeling about what it may be but I dont want to say without more evidence.

    Adam

Hi Adam thanks for having a look i'm using the williams optics star 71 mark1 connected to the zwo 7 position filter wheel with baader ccd 36mm filters fitted then straight onto the asi1600mm pro heated element fitted to camera.

I've attached some tiff images processed in pixinsight of m81 lrgb witch have been slightly cropped dbe process run  and easy processing script stretched.

  8. I have my zwo filter wheel connected to my asi1600mm pro when i use my bahtinov mask on the luminance filter the centre spikes seem to be on a strange angle but when using other filters like the red filter they seem fine is this maybe down to the front glass on the asi1600 and the brightness 1657913172_lumnomask.thumb.png.659e8b688cfd94a9255601bb54bcddc7.png385569266_lumwithmask.thumb.png.f954fd8b041014df16016674d1bb52dc.pngred.thumb.png.9c64cfcd3805ef1684864bfe5d26c7ca.png

I am not sure but sounds more like the size of the image is too small rather than the catalogue its using.
From memory I think it recommends downloading H18 and V17.
Are there enough stars visible ? Although I thought that would return a different fault.

    Steve

All working now thanks seemed to be a problem with astap download had to change a command in file.

  10. Hi just started using Nina and have download Astap but when it goes to plate solve i get a message saying Warning ASTAP-Warning remaining image dimensions too low! can any one shed some light on this maybe i have download the wrong astap catalogue H18? maybe i should download the H17 smaller star database, can anybody get me going.

  11. Worst decision I ever made buying one new didn't last 12 months before going wrong ,i sent it back to qhy and it cost more to get it posted back than to send it to them had exact same problem 6 months later they said the read out chip was at fault maybe try resoldering connection points, won't by qhy again have owned a zwo asi 1600 for 2yrs now no problems and lot more use.

  12. HI that's caused by the bright star at the edge of the sensor not a lot you can do except maybe flock the inside of the baffle tube and scope by that i mean line it with dark material available from first light optics.its the reducer reflecting the light back into the scope.

  13. I have created a master bias with pixinsight from my zwoasi1600mm pro temp was set at -20 and a exposure  of 0 seconds total images 200,I created with image integration using linear fit sigma low 4000 and high 2000 then applying a superbias with 5 layers and applying a 24bit function does the super bias look correct with the dark patch on the right?.does everybody else's super bias look similar.Untitled.thumb.png.b969ef2b771202edf94777bded94dfc5.png
