  1. If I may make a suggestion Gina? Could you not try to get some mirrors knocked up or even get a glass cutter and have a go yourself?? My guess fish tank sealent would stick to glass together in the desired shape. My thinking is this way you can get other perspectives on the inner workings so to speak. A hole could be drilled through the glass in a similar way to drilling ceramic tiles so that the cabelling can be routed straight out the back so not to distract from the mechanism. Just a thought.
  2. You really do take ideas out of the mind and in to reality Gina. Fantastic job.
  3. Loved my 127L but I found my EVO150 was roughly around the same weight but offered the extra inch so the AR went. I was shocked to find the OTA on the Bresser's are aluminium when you consider how hefty the tube is.
  4. This looks a great solution and alternative to breaking your back digging a 3' hole for a drain pipe. Can I ask why these are stuck together with glue as apposed to mortar ??
  5. I think this is a case of aperture fever in reverse ! I'm not overly fussed for large, heavy and cumbersome scopes but I always thought 8" is an ideal size and I can't help but think your going to soon miss those extra 4",
  6. You also need to take in to consideration how a 4" increase in aperture can make to the overall size and weight of a scope. If you have the funds there are scopes out there that deal with the weight issue better than others, namely the 12" OO UK aluminium tube dobs with aluminium bases but the OTA dimensions can still be a handful and take up a lot of room in a car. Then there are truss dobs which match large aperture with ease of portability but again depending on how much you have in the kitty can vary in quality and usability. There are of coursed affordable Chinese dobs but you will be shocked at just how big and heavy a 12" can be compared to an 8". If you search SGL there is a thread started by Astrobaby giving size comparisons which have people in the pictures to give a better ideal idea of scale.
  7. I really do wish Bresser/ Meade/ ES would offer those handles separately. Was so handy having one on my AR127L.
  8. Very nice Shane. Complete with TV equalizer I see Hang on !! We all know you got more refractors than that now Shane where are they ??
  9. You do know they do an ortho in green and black don't you ?????
  10. Here are a few from my collection over the years both past and present. My first refractor was an f/8 Evostar 120 which I still regret selling... This was replaced with a Celestron f/9 C100ED which despite having no CA, for me never lived up to the EVO so is pictured here on the chopping block.. Purchasing a used GOTO AZ mount I found myself with a SLT 60 f/10 which actually ended up as being one of my most used scopes for daytime WL, terrestrial spotter and quick grab and go lunar double star scope. This now belongs to my son. Getting the refractor bug again an f/10 EVO 90 entered my collection along with a well corrected Antares sentinel f/6 80mm for wide field grab and go.. Soon to be joined by one of my most favoured but heavy refractors the Bresser AR127L... Only to be replaced by my aperture hungry Evostar 150 f/8 which now resides in my current collection along side an ST102 f/4.9, ST120 f/5 and LS60Tha f/8.3
  11. Would I be right in saying they are money trees in the back ground ? Great collection and interested to see you have a similar truss design on the 18" to sky-watchers although I am sure far more refined.
  12. How much did you get it for in the end Shane? I'd got my eye on it as a lighter alternative to my 300P with traditional Chinese flat pack kitchen chip board weigh the earth base.
  13. My dob actually sits gathering dust more than it does light from stars but here it is actually getting used for once at SGLX.
  14. This one I call the "The leaning tower of Peli"
  15. A case is for life though mate Even if I one day on the remote possibility I gave up stargazing I'd never have to worry where to put my bone China collection
  16. Some updates to my eyepiece and eyepiece case collection. Peli 1300 for my webcams and barlows http://www.waterproof-cases.co.uk/product/peli-1300-case/ Which I have now added another Peli 1300 for my white light and Ha eyepieces Peli 1450 for my GIRO Ercole http://www.waterproof-cases.co.uk/product/peli-1450-case/ Which I went and got another with the intension of putting a LS50Tha scope in it but instead got the LS60Tha which comes in it's own box. I'm sure it won't be long before I find something to put in the surplus 1450 Peli 1500 for my 2" heavy weights http://www.waterproof-cases.co.uk/product/peli-1500-case/ Which only felt right I get another for my 1.25" and balancing friendly ep collection I'd originally started out with a Maplins http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/flight-case-with-foam-n70ap flight case as have many others but after realizing just how much ££££ was being put in to a lightweight ally case I felt it was worth getting a case I know I can rely on to protect what is for me an investment in years of observing pleasure.
  17. I would imagine at the end of the day it comes down to which gas ES can get hold of at the right price. Both N2 and Ar are both inert gas and so moisture will not form inside of the eyepiece not that to be honest that I have ever came across moisture inside any of my none purged eyepieces. My main preference for ES eyepieces is not what gas is inside but more that they have seals which prevent dust or other contaminates getting in when I'm giving the lens a blast with my rocket blower. By far the worst eyepieces I have had for letting dust between the elements were Hyperions. I swear I only had to show them my rocket blower and something would appear between a lens group.
  18. Maplin large flight cases are reduced again if anyone is interested http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/flight-case-with-foam-n70ap
  19. I'm aware of people having used the bottom of a septic tanks for domes http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/142356/I-see-Uranus-from-my-tank.html . I looked in to it and while it would have been ideal it wasn't going to be within my budget.
  20. O come on Stu.... I mean really.... ££££ in eyepieces and you pack it in off cuts of pluck. I think you need to take a look on at this thread mate http://stargazerslounge.com/topic/221907-custom-eyepiece-case-review/
