  1. That is what I thought and is how mine is set up Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk - now Free (I like free)
  2. I believe the date and times in stellarium or EQmode are used so no need to input the data in the handset, I didn't enter anything tonight and it was only a little out. I could be wrong of course but it was only a little out, could most likely be to more poor alignment from way back Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk - now Free (I like free)
  3. Maybe a fresh alignment is in order, job for tomorrow..... If the clouds allow it Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk - now Free (I like free)
  4. Ahh that sounds easy enough, thanks Andy most learn to explore these programmes more......but it was dark Will this then stay aligned when turned off?
  5. Not been out gazing for as few months so managed to get out tonight for an hour or 2 of some simple observing, also making sure all is good for the up coming months (i find christmas time good observing). Well on to my "little" issue, My set up is all housed in an obsy, on a pier and running via Stellarium/Eqmod, EQ5 200P. After being switched on and PC running i started EQmod and all was working fine, then started Stellarium and that is working fine so very pleased at this point, (not been on for at least 4 months) all this is working with the hand controller in PC direct mode. I never went into entering date, time, location as all this data should be kept once scope is "parked" if using EQmode etc. So far so good, just to check things are working i slewed the scope to Vega, via Stellarium, of it went but was a few degrees of target, Stellarium was saying bang on of course but the scope was of target. My question is, can i some how align the scope to the selected target without going into the handset using 2 star alignment etc? i cant seem to find anything within Stellarium to do this, if i just loosen the clutches on the mount and move it that way will that work and not mess anything else up? or has Stellarium got a function to do this?, move the the cursor/rectical on the screen.
  6. Things are never finished..... Are they? Well it is now with the walls lined for added darkness and insulation for the colder months, plus it's sooo cosy
  7. Thanks a lot for the reply's guys very helpful indeed. Was hoping I can do away with hand controller. I'm guessing I don't need to enter the time and date as it uses the laptops time and date, same with long/lat? It's all polar aligned so I just need to do star alignments as stated. Thanks for your time to write all you did Andyuk, that was very helpful. Just want this rain to stop this month so I can give it a go Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk - now Free (I like free)
  8. Been having problems with my synscan controller ( non responsive buttons, power issues) so come to a conclusion I need a replacement. But do I?, I only use it in PC direct mode so I can use EQmode and stellirum. The only time I use the controller is for set up, date time etc and 2 star alignment, if it lasts that long. Can I use the EQdirect cable and do away with the synscan controller? If that is the case how would I align the scope?, it's in an obsy so hopefully only need to do this once. It's all working fine with EQmode and stellirum and I control the scoop with an xbox game pad. I'm hoping the synscan controller will keep going to let do the alignment but it never does, if it does and the scope is aligned and working well with stellirum then can I ditch the controller for a EQdirect cable? 9. Thanks for the reply's guys, tried power tank and still the same, it's only just started to do it. Been in touch with skywatcher today and a EQ controller and the AZ/ALT controller have the same hardware as long as the "synscan" writing under the LCD display is in gold, so can be flashed for both mounts. So will try this. Just to confirm as we'll the sockets at the bottom of both controllers are the same and the cables from my EQ5 mount fit. 10. Been having problems with my EQ skywatcher controller, see my other topic. I also have a AZ controller for my other scope, is it possible to re flash this one to EQ via skywatchers downloads to check if it is the controller playing up? 11. That's the one that turns it back on if I touch it, so I thought the same. But when it is on and I play with that cable nothing happens it's fine Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk - now Free (I like free)
  12. Had a horrible night last (and it was clear), got stellarium and eqmod set up on a new laptop and got it all talking to the mount during the day and was working great, nice and happy. So when night come out I went, powered everything up and away to go, all working ok but I needed to align the scope better, so parked scope and used the handset to do a 2star alignment, so switched off and started from fresh, Aligned the first star then as it was near the position of the second the power would go off handset dead, turn back on and start all over again, this happened a handful of times and if I did get it aligned and ready to go it would go off at any time. Sometimes if I touched anyone of the cables it would come back on, then once on I would wiggle the cables (check if loose) but all seemed fine and would stay on. I thought it could be a power supply issue, so I changed from the mains to the power tank but still done it, used this power tank many times before with no issues. The mains I'm using is a maplins 12v car supply plugged into 240v, been ok only now started to have problems, Do these handsets suffer from the cold? Wouldn't have thought so. Also sometimes some of the buttons don't at first work, S o I'm thinking faulty handset, any way to test? Any help would be great
  13. I had the skywatcher remote focuser of the my good lady for Christmas ( after she got the hint with link I sent her). Upon opening the box to fit it I find a nice little bar of chocolate in the box, the chocolate was also packed in a little bag. I had a sticker of them once which fine but chocolate ? I don't mind, people can send chocolate every day to me, just seems a bit strange....but thanks FLO it was lovely. Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk - now Free (I like free)
  14. Thanks for the comments guys. Yeah it is nice and cosy and the mrs always knows where to find me lol. Just want the rain to stop now. Here's some of the outside. The metal sheeting on the roof was an after thought, the normal felted roof I built with not enough fall on it, and with cheap felt started to allow water to come in, so I fixed these on with a greater fall, works really well now and is bone dry, plus makes a stronger roof and not to much more weight, still rolls nice and easy Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk - now Free (I like free)
  15. After a break in the build, have finally finished the obsy. When I left it a few months ago it was ok to use ( see older posts) but the walls and floor not finished. I have now boarded out the walls and roof and used some fibre board to go on the floor, to help stop the cold coming up. Have also fitted a heater on a timer to stop any possible damp etc, but have had no problems as yet. It's not the largest or best I have seen on here but it serves me well, it's dry and has enough room to walk around the scope whilst viewing, all powered up and laptop controlled. Very pleased with myself and helps me use my scope a lot more. Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk - now Free (I like free)
  16. What a great post, and so very true, I think it sums up a lot of us on here Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk - now Free (I like free)
  17. All this camera talk is getting me thinking that maybe I should try it. I thought all these cameras are very expensive?, but then see you buy cameras of fleebay and make them fit etc, what type and where to look for a cam and what can I expect to see? is it like has been said, you look at a screen instead of a EP?
  18. Some interesting points, quite like the sound of going down the video camera road then using an EP Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk - now Free (I like free)
  19. Thanks for the replays guys. I'm putting it down to bad seeing(fingers crossed). So when I get back out there with all the little problems sorted will let you know. The royal observatory was good and you can see why it was built on such a hill, great view, was also good to see a original section of the Williams Herschel telescope after going to his house in Bath in the summer, which was also good.
  20. Have seen someone with the same problem. Basically make the pier as you would normally to put into the ground, but instead it was put into a bin which was then had concrete poured into it. Believe me it weighed about half a tonne and was never going to be moved in a hurry. This should give you more room to move around and if it's just for visual use should be stable enough. Hope this gives you plan Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk - now Free (I like free)
  21. That all sounds good news, the reason I ask is I was looking at the ring nebula and it just didn't seem as good as I remember, also struggled to find M32 but could have been in the wrong spot. Had problems with focus on my 20mm and higher EP ( or lower, depends on how you see it) Collimation was way out (due to transport of move I guess) but I guess and hope it was just bad seeing Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk - now Free (I like free)
  22. Just moved into the centre of Newport (st Julian's) my garden is pretty dark and now got the scope set up in an obsy. First light the other week and was struggling a bit with LP I think, didn't seem that much different from my last house in portskewett. Anyone else here from the Newport area? How you copping with the LP? Is it making viewing a problem? Hopping it was just bad viewing, Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk - now Free (I like free)
  23. There you go my house is close to m4 but due to house location and tress I get very little light from m4 Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk - now Free (I like free)
