  1. Thanks guys, but 1k is out of my price range. I think i will just stick to observing. Cheers
  2. Ouch. Maybe i will give up on deep sky photography then. I haven't got that much disposable income.
  3. Thanks! If i were to upgrade the mount, what one would i have to go for to allow for deep sky photography?
  4. Thnaks for the replies. Stolenfeather, have you got any images that you have taken so that i can see what sort of pictures i can expect please?
  5. Hi, I am looking at getting a dSLR to start imaging nebulae and galaxies, however, i have a Dob. Will i be able to still take reasonable shots using this type of mount or is there not much point going into this area of astrophotography with a dob? I don't want to be spending loads on upgrading the mount either as i have a budget of £500 which includes the camera. Cheers Jack
  6. Thanks guys. It was manually tracked with my Dob, yes.
  7. Hi everyone. I tried to have a go at imaging the Io transit with the GRS on the 24th. The skies were clear but the image was quite flickery, so there must have been a few clouds around causing some distortion. Here is the best that i could get before the real clouds came over and Io was out of the transit and the GRS was out of view;
  8. Cheers
  9. Cheers guys. I will have a play around again and try one without the filter for next time.
  10. The conditions were fluctuating a bit and the image was getting dark and then really bright so it was difficult to get it right. I will have a go at redoing the video tomorrow. I will be more picking as to which frames to stack and will try to weed out the ones that seem to have too much gain. I agree. I think i overdid it on the wavelets so i will have a play around with that too. Is there anything that i can do to it in Photoshop to help enhance it further? Thanks
  11. I went through each frame and deselected blurry ones where i was centring Jupiter in the frame as i have to manually track it. Apart from those, i set the quality to 90% of the best frame i could find. Do you think i should be even more selective when choosing the frames to stack then?
  12. Hi all, Had a 2nd go at Jupiter last night, leaving it until around 1-2am when it was a reasonable distance from the closest street light. After being dissapointed with my first attempt, i took on board all of the advice everybody gave me and tried again. Here is the best that i could get with a 3 minute video at 10fps using a SW 200p Dob, SPC880(SPC900), 2x barlow and a Baader Neodymium filter. Took the video using Sharpcap, stacked using Registax, and cropped in Photoshop. Does anyone have any advice on what i could do to help enhance the image? Thanks
  13. According to Stellarium Europa will be in transit along with the GRS on Tues evening/ Wed morning. And Io and the GRS will do the same again this time next week Lets hope it won't be cloudy though
  14. Thanks very much guys. At the moment, Jupiter is normally in the same direction as a streetlight that shines over into the garden and it is around 2am before it is far enough away. Hopefully it is also this (along with the lack of perfect imaging conditions) rather than my scope or settings Thanks again. I will give it another go on Friday or Saturday night hopefully. Also, i have just received some colour filters from Astroboot. Will these make any difference whatsoever to imaging? I assume that they won't and are just for viewing purposes?
  15. I tried to focus it as best as i could and that is what i got. I will give the manual alignment a try, but that looks like it will take ages as i have to align each individual frame.
  16. Had another go at imaging Jupiter last night upping the gain on some of the videos, dropping the gamma, and playing around with the shutter speed on others. I still seem to have the same problem, and the best that i can come up with at the moment are below. I have made sure that they are focussed as much as possible, so i am nut sure if i am also not processing the videos properly.
  17. i will try to see if i can get the focus any better next time. also, when i am processing it, should i be getting rid of any invidual frames where the image is poor? as when it is aligning, jupiter seems to be missed by the box quite often.
  18. Thanks very much for the tips. The seeing probably isn't perfect, as you have said, and i have taken some 2-3 minute AVI's gradually increasing gain on one, and slightly decreasing shutter speed on the other. I will try to put them through Registax tomorrow to see if i come up with anything better this time. Thanks again.
  19. The video for the 2nd image is 1:29. I used a 2x barlow, and the telescope details are; Diameter of Primary Mirror: 203mm Telescope Focal Length: 1200mm (f/5.91)
  20. Yep, they are taken with the scope in my sig. I took 896 frames for the 2nd image that i posted. Gain was probably about 25%. I used the following tutorial; Webcam Astrophotography Tutorial for Planets
  21. Just tried it again with one of the videos with more exposure, and this is the best i can get; Maybe i am doing something wrong in Registax
  22. im not sure of the exact exposure as Sharpcap doesn't give numbers, just a slider. But i had it quite low as i thought that i read that it was better to under expose than over expose. Have i got that the wrong way around? Seeing was very good. And settings were pretty much default,i think, apart from shutter speed and gain, which were quite low.
  23. Hi everyone. Just tested out the parts that i bought for imaging for the first time. (SPC900NC, Baader Neo filter) Tried to get my first image with it using SharpCap and Registax, but i can't seem to get the detail out of the image like in the tutorials. Does anyone have any tips please? Thanks
  24. I purchased a 4 filters from Scopes 'n' Skies on Saturday the 4th of September. Waited until Thursday 9th until i contacted them to find out if the item had been sent. Received a reply on the 10th (yesterday) after the postman had been. They said that it can take up to 5 working days for it to be delivered (which it had been). I then followed this up, stating that it had been 5 working days, only to receive an automated email saying that my items had just been dispatched, followed by an email from them saying that it had just been sent. I then asked why it had taken them a week to send these items, and they replied stating that they were understaffed due to holidays and sickness. Whereas, i ordered a Baader filter from FLO on Thursday using the same delivery method. Received this yesterday (1 day turn around). Won't be using Scopes 'n' Skies again, that's for sure. (BTW. Still awaiting the items)
