  1. Worm gears need much more viscous lube than wheel gears because the gear faces make sliding contact rather than rolling contact. It's very likely not a good idea to replace the OEM stuff with lightweight lube not intended for worm drives.
  2. @BrendanC did you ever get guiding working with the Mikrokular? I'm in need of a stopgap guide camera so don't want to spend more than I absolutely have to, and that seems to be the cheapest possibility but I'd like to know if it works before I buy one.
