  3. Hello All I'm interested to know what everyone else does when guiding. My question is is it better or not to bin the guide camera. I have a QHY5 ii with a finder guider set up and ST80. Was wondering if it is better to bin the camera or not and what are peoples thoughts on this
  4. Thank you for the clarification
  5. Hello I have just purchased this mount from FLO and can you tell me when you opened the box with the legs in it was leg extender clamps facing inwards like in my picture.
  6. Excellent work and nice and natural with wonderful colors
  7. I'm currently trying to process a version of the rosette nebula. I have not been able to do any imaging over the last 5 years and when I stopped I just purchased a CCD camera and Pixinsight. The images I had taken I did not bin my RGB and now wondering after seeing your image to maybe bin the colour from now one as the green and blue channels seem to have the most noise. Was it difficult jump to go exclusively to Pixinsight ?
  8. I suppose what I'm trying to get at is the Dark frame with the bias frame subtracted should be as expected and from what you are saying it is ?. The light and dark were exposed at the same times and temperatures. Ian
  9. I'm following guides on how to process images in Pixinsight and they are all going in the direction of calibrating the dark with a bias in image calibration. This is one guide I'm following: Light Vortex Astronomy - Tutorial (PixInsight): Pre-processing (Calibrating and Stacking) Images in PixInsight But something does not feel right Ian
  10. Could anyone please advise on potentially a issue I'm having. When I stack my dark files I find everything looks good as expected. MASTER DARK.xisf But when I apply the bias to the dark file in image calibration the pixel value (I think) goes to zero and the dark is not completely black. MASTER DARK_c.xisf Can someone tell me if this is expected, the above dark is also auto stretched. The dark was taken at -20C five minute exposer on a SX TRIUS 694 CCD. I have also included the master bias MASTER BIAS.xisf Regards Ian]
  11. ok so in the master light there is 2 dark lines but in a single sub there is only one dark column which is very faint. I wonder from dithering every 2 frames has added more lines into the stacked image and made them more pronounce. I will have to look into pixinsight as there is a feature to remove columns/rows just need to learn the software more.
  12. Hello Olly thank you for helping me I have also attached a single sub. Seems there is only one column on the single sub. My master bias shows the defect much more clearly For stacking I'm using Pixinsight but I'm learning how to use it. I have been away from this awesome hobby for over 4 years due to conditions where I use to live. I don't think its the white lines but the dark linein the middle of the 2 1.81_NGC 2244_HA_LIGHT_2022-02-26_-20.30_300.00s_0004.fits
  13. Hello I'm trying to process my images with a CCD starlight xpress 694 mono camera. On my images I know there is a dark band running down the picture from top to bottom. The issue is for me that when stacking I cannot seem to remove this band. I'm dithering and using darks, flats and bias frames and still the band remains. am I doing something wrong as I was under the impression the vertical lines were removed by calibration files in the bias frame. I have attached a master file if someone would not mind having a look for me. HA MASTER.xisf
  14. excellent detail my favourite night sky object
  15. Wow I'm imaging the Rose 🌹 myself I just would love to have a image as good as that nice.
  16. Just started a trial version of pixinsight and my god is it good. But question is how much it totals pounds will it cost with VAT on top. Anyone here from the UK know who has bought it in the past.

You're better off asking on the boards, rather than via a status update! :)

  17. This sounds very interesting indeed, I will have to give this a try.

Dunno man, I might give it a miss tonight.... 1) because I've had one late night too many, and 2) I dont think the sky quality will justify setting up. And its only going to get more difficult as the nights get even shorter!

Going to have a peak at Jupiter in about 20 mins or so. GRS will be coming round, plus a transit too, but the shadow doesn't appear until much later on though.
