  1. Well done Mark, glad the skies cleared for you. Sorry I didn't make it out last night, I have a nasty chest infection and last night it came on with a vengeance. I was up most of the night so I made an early start to get going. So apologies for not getting out last night and not say cheerio this morning. Many thanks to all who attended, it great to put faces to names and meeting up again with the regular stalwarts. Shame about weather, but at least all made it to the pub. Hope to have another SP in the Autumn. Safe journey home.
  2. Cath and I have booked a table for 2 at 6.30. Can always join a bigger table.
  3. Hopefully Mark. I was quite good here in Newport for a city. Fingers crossed.
  4. The booking policy, if still in place, only applies to large numbers. You can still book a table in the normal way. I booked yesterday for the Friday we are there.
  5. I think they now have a minimum number sitting of 6 persons. The person booking has to leave credit card details in case of cancellations etc. This is because other groups, (not ours) but hikers, canoeist have not turned up and left the landlord under booked. Last year we were told that a table for 12 was booked and they never arrived. On the strength that booking the landlord turned away other bookings. Their policy may have changed since then, so best check with them first. Depending on the skies, my wife an I will probably be there on Friday evening. πŸΊπŸΊπŸΊπŸ‘
  6. I look forward to meeting up again. I have had a word with the big guy, and hopefully he will look more favourably on the weather this time.πŸ‘
  7. Hi Kevin. The SWAG star party is a relatively small event with about 15- 20 average on a good turnout. We have a wide range of interest from those with vast experience and sophisticated equipment, to those how just use binoculars and chat. All contribute in one way or another and are more than welcome. There are no additional costs to the normal site fees.
  8. Good man Justyn, we look forward to meeting up again. This year I will be in the Orchard with the other toffs, πŸ™„I need connected access to the water supply. Don't worry thou' the kettle will still always be on for you. πŸ‘
  9. Hi Justyn Book on line if you are still having trouble, and request pitch 13 in the notes section. Then follow up with a phone call when you get time. I think they may be under staffed until the wardens take over.
  10. That's great Mark, look forward to meeting up again. πŸ‘
  11. South Wales Astronomy Group (SWAG) Star Party 2023 has now been booked. The event will be at Pencelli Castle Caravan and Camping Park the weekend of March 17th - 18th. To attend, contact the park directly and book your nights, your proffered pitch if you have one and EHU if needed. Please remember to tell them you are with the astronomy group. Hope to see you there.
  12. Good luck with the caravan/motorhome search, it's always fun for us. 😧 We look forward to meeting up again. Tony & Cath
  13. Thanks for your thoughts guys. It looks more favourable for the weekend of the 17th, 18th and 19th of March, with the New Moon on the 20th. This will allow for the local and regular members to attend other events as well as Pencelli if they wish. I will be confirming these dates with the site owners next week. Book soon for your favourite pitch before the mad rush. πŸ” πŸ”πŸ”πŸ˜€
  14. Due to clashes with other star parties and school half term breaks, I am considering the SWAG SP in April 2023 on the weekend of Fri 21st- Sun 23rd. This will be with the New Moon on Thurs 20th along with a Solar Eclipse. The Lynids Meteor Shower on the same weekend with Venus visible. Any thoughts on these date would be welcome. Tony
  15. Happy Christmas & Prosperous New Year to everyone.πŸŽ… Hope to see you all in the spring.

    Star Party 2022

I would say that 99% of camp sites don't allow generators. I have been on a few rallies off grid where generators were used and the noise was horrendous. Unless you use a Β£500,000 nuclear powered quieter than the grave generator or a 1 ton battery pack, you will be limited to 1 night at best from conventional packs. Then these need to be recharged daily usually by a football pitch size solar panel and a day of Sahara sunshine. That's why remote off grid star parties rarely exist.
  17. I would like to go to the Galloway SP, but I know the local Druids would have something to say about it. πŸ§™β€β™‚οΈ Ever seen 'The Wicker Man'.
  18. I'm not sure on the Cwmdu Astrocamp dates, I'm sure Justyn will have details on that.
  19. Thanks to all who attended this Autumns SWAG SP. Despite the poor weather, it appears everyone enjoyed themselves. A big thanks to Justyn for taking the reins during my absence, ( must try harder controlling the weather)🌧️ πŸ˜€ and the Dob Mob for their unwavering support and presence. I'm hoping to organise another event in the early Spring, probably the weekend 18th-19th March. New Moon on 21st.. Please let me know your thoughts. Again many thanks, take care and see you in the new year. πŸ‘
  20. If his car is there, then he's asleep. 😴😴 Justyn is not known for early rising, especially after an imaging night. If his car is missing, he's gone for curry & chips, or a run.
  21. Have a good weekend Justyn, wish I was with you. πŸ‘πŸ”
  22. Thanks for the kind words. I will pass on your best wishes.
