  1. Thanks, been there got the t shirt, the size and bulk is too much for carrying in and out now and not something I'm willing to do anymore. I heard matsukovs are good planetary scopes,is this not true? Thanks Gary
  2. Looking for an easy to carry in and out planetary scope. I was thinking a skywatcher skymax 102 or similar. Or even a long focal length achromatic refractor. Would love your thoughts on what would give beat image bang for buck. Thanks Gary
  3. Just checking out mars on my 8 inch dob, nicely collimated and it's pretty underwhelming. Not that clear and quite shimmery, I did notice though some object flying past fast while looking the last 30 mins.. Oh well keep it it, with I could see Jupiter but that's front of house and not moving scope out the front.😁
  4. Many thanks for you concise replies, pretty much what I thought, imam more of a visual bloke just thought I'd throw astrophotography into the equation just in case.. I am going to go for the 200p dobsonian mounts reflector as I think for visual stuff it's going to be great and planets too. Thanks again Gary
  5. Hello All. I'm more than likely buying a 200p dob, but also I have in mind the skywatcher st120 short tube refractor. The reason I need some guidance and I know there two different things but I want the most suited to me. The short tube appeals to me because it's easier to move in and out the house. I may fancy doing some basic astrophotography at sometime, is it doeable with both or easier with one of them? Will I see alot more with the 200p? I know aperture is everything but is the difference alot? Could I get good planetary views with the st120? Any help guidance and points of view welcomed. Thanks Gary
  6. Thanks all for replies and help identifying them. Sorry its late ive been moving home been very busy. Back now though and also looking for a telescope now. Thanks Again Gary
  7. Thanks, yes they are very very sharp, but a bit of lack of contrast, maybe need cleaning inside, although no signs of fungus or anything, but a bit hazy, well collimated and sharp though. Lens do lool coated, sort of a brown colour like my old swifts. Cant find these anywhere online at all. Just don't mnow what to ask for them, maybe ill just action them online see what happens. Appreciate the reply. Gary.
  8. Hello all. Just found these while clearing family home, they are well made, and feel quality, sort of remid me of the older leitz with the same sort of smooth action metal focusser. Were are selling alot of stuff to raise money for a charity he supported and i dont know what they may be worth or anything about them. Google paragon reveals nothing. Thanks Gary
  9. Thanks for the replies all, sorry for delay in replying. Sounds like its a possibility, my only concern as im stuck for room at home is it would have to live in the cold garage..not sure if this would over time be detrimental to its optics etc. One other option would be a small grab and go refractor. Do any of the smaller refractors gice descent performance for planets? That could be kept in the wardrobe. Thanks Gary
  10. Been a while, so hello peeps hope your all well. Looking at buying a scope again for planets and casual observing visually. Was thinking of the orion optics 1/10pv vx6L. Anyone used one and can tell me how it might conpare to the chinese ones. I live within 20 miles of orion optics so easy to collect. Thanks Gary
  11. Esde optik 20x80 made in Japan. I don't actually use them anymore no time but there razor sharp and a joy to look through.
  12. Leica trinovid 10x25 :-). The moon is nice through em..
  13. Opticron Oregon 11x70 fully multi coated bak 4's... There optically very good indeed and light gathering excellent.. For an inexpensive pair their have great coatings on the front lenses, sharp to 95% of the field and I haven't yet noticed any blue fringing, I would recommend if anyone is after any smaller mag observation bins.
