Hi there, it was great to meet you both and a great day too, Hope you had a fabulous time. Thanks for the support. TT.

Thanks for taking the photo. We had a great time at the Practical Astronomy Show and admired the quality of your engineering on display. Best regards George

I'm all ready for the holiday. I'm sorting through my Martian data and hope to get some good images from it. Hey, I can see Olympus Mons in your image, near the right edge of the disc.

Excellent news regarding Yule preparations and Martian data. Looking forward to seeing your images soon. Yes I thought it was Olympus Mons but I often make mistakes identifying features in the Martian landscape. Merry Christmas Reggie from George and Anita.

Great image, George! How are you and the Mrs.?

Thanks Reggie. Mrs H and I are well. She is recovering well from her knee and hip replacement surgery and we are out an about again, currently visiting an old friend in Sheffield. Hope you are keeping well and ready for a very Merry Christmas.

Best regards from George and Anita.

Really nice image. Well done. I just processed my attempt and only a little bit of detail came out. I feel Mars is more strongly affected by bad seeing than Jupiter...

Thank you for the kind comment. I find processing Mars tricky. If you over do the sharpening or the red channel, the image looks unreal. I think I over emphasized the red at the expense of green in this image.

Yes I agree, thin high cloud and or the jet stream over head and you might as well pack up for the night with Mars. This year Mars is quite small and with a 3x Barlow my 5 inch refractor struggles to resolve fine detail. I'm getting on a bit and my eye sight makes focussing ever more difficult even with all the hardware and software aids. Still I refuse to give up but I must admit the cold and damp nights are a tad discouraging. Best regards from George in a windy Lowestoft.

Beautiful! All I got last night was a deep red dot for Antares as it was hanging out with the Moon. Your image has inspired me to go deeper into this region of sky.

Thank you for your kind comment and pleased to have provided inspiration. It is the first time I've managed to get an image of this bit of sky showing some detail. Antares is only visible from my location on a few nights in summer. My image was captured from a first floor bedroom window. My cameras were mounted on a fixed tripod so exposure time for each light frame was limited to avoid star trailing. Oh to live a bit further south.

    Best regards George

When I saw the image I was about to ask did you take this?? LOL

    Regards, Reggie

It's cold and grey here, too 😞

    Hi Reggie

Nice to hear from you. I guess we both wish we had the kit to image Europa with this much detail😉. I did however enjoy messing about with the Juno data which is marvelous! Sad to hear you have got grey skies and low temperatures too. We have had torrential rain this morning and this afternoon a rather nice rainbow.

    Best regards George.

Cheers! I'm getting out there tonight my local time (EDT) hopefully to see a few, maybe even image one!

    Reggie

Nice to hear from you Reggie. Hope you had a great Perseid night.!

Against all forecast predictions, the sky was clear and transparent here in Lowestoft in the early hours of the 13th August. Anita and I sat out on the cliffs at Pakefield from midnight until 02:00am. looking out over the North Sea.  Great display saw upwards of forty meteors but not all Perseids judging from their trajectories. One of which I managed to photograph, it was very bright and green in colour. Several of the meteors left  smoke trails which we could see move and break up as a result of wind shear.

    Best regards George
