  1. I actually used a Hotmail account. It says that in the FAQ, but I didn't have any issues using it as my e-mail account.
  2. Hi Dave - This link talks about taking flats with a DSLR and also mentions adjusting the EV setting as part of the process. I use PixInsight which has a statistics process, but unless you were thinking about getting PixInsight, you might want to try the EV adjustment mentioned in the article and see what the correction looks like in DeepSkyStacker. Taking proper Flat frames with your DSLR (myastroscience.com) Thanks, Rob
  3. If you select the simulator camera, I'm guessing that when PHD2 starts, it's trying to run a calibration which won't work because the image itself doesn't change so eventually it gives up. To test a NINA setup without a real guide camera, I started PHD2, went to Tools->Modify Calibration->Enter Calibration Data and on that dialog, just clicked OK. Then at least the guiding part will continue in the simulated mode. Hope that helps.
  4. I modded a 450D also and it went pretty smoothly. Had a couple scary moments, but it turned out ok in the end. I did manage to mess up one of the connectors, but it didn't affect functionality that I cared about. Also, a complete replacement sensor for these older Canon cameras are typically pretty cheap so even if something goes horribly wrong, it's likely that you can purchase a new sensor and fix it. The link that Dave posted is a really good set of instructions and even has a printable sheet to tape down any screws you remove as you go through the process. Another thing to look for on EBay or other sites are cameras where some functionality isn't working (like stuck flash or broken screen) that make the camera non-functional for normal photography but which you wouldn't care about.
  5. Just got the EQ6-R yesterday and it seems totally awesome. Obviously it's cloudy for another week as a result, but got it working with EQMod. Can't wait to get it out in clear weather. Cheers
