  1. Orion was always my favourite constellation and I wanted to capture the Orion Nebula for a long time. Unfortunately from my backyard I only have a very limited FOV and for a limited time each year. This was my first capture of the Orion Nebula and even with the limited data I was over the moon. RedCat51 with L-extreme filter ASI533 13x180 sec subs Most of the stacking and processing done in SIRIL with final touch in Adobe Lightroom Captured 06/12/2021 from Bortle 5/6 in Essex
  2. Hi @Blazar The nebula is still nicely positioned and high on horizon so give it a go. Nebula season hasn't finished yet 🙂
  3. Hi all Finally had chance to use my RedCat51 to target a nebula. From my location I'm limited to FOV roughly 40 deg above horizon due to surrounding houses, and only NW to NE. Friday was not looking good, so I didn't bother setting anything up (weather app was showing ok from 9PM but I stopped trusting them long time ago 😉 ) but around 23:00 I looked outside and was stunned how nice was the sky. So decided better late then never, and started setting everything up, once all was set up and polar aligned guess what, thick clouds rolled in, I decided to wait, and about 30 min later it cleared, so I started shooting. Didn't manage to get any calibration frames but I'm pretty happy with the result. 46x 240s lights with dithering, no calibration frames ASI533 and Optolong L-Extreme which I believe helped a lot, I'm in bortle 5/6 Stacked, and initial stretch and processing in SIRIL, and some corrections in PS and LR
  4. Hi all I know this is an old post but I though I'll add to it. I tend to add locations to my google maps whenever I see a good result on someone's page or a mention of good skies . So far in fairly 'local' area I have the following (please note haven't visited them myself yet so cannot confirm how good they are) Westleton Common, IP17 3BD Kelling Heath NR25 7HW RSPB Titchwell March PE31 8BB
  5. Hi Knobby Keep forgetting to visit this part of the forum, spending way too much time on Sales part 😉 What software did you use to process ? I've recently drifted from DSS to SIRIL which I find deals much better with my data (often without calibration frames) and does great job on background extraction.
  6. Thanks Peter Will give Flat via ASAIR another go, and hope I can still use the lights. I thought I found the shortcut, lessons learned.
  7. Hi That is what I suspected. Is there a walkaround or are the flats wasted. I tried importing flats into Photoshop to resize them but in Photoshop they show a totally different size. would other stacking software be a solution ?
  8. I believe the issue is that sensor size is registered differently in Asiair Pro and when importing direct from camera (which I did for Flat and Bias). 5634 x 3753 for Lights and darks (done trough Asiair Pro interface) 5634 x 3752 for flat and bias (shot directly on camera)
  9. Hi all, I'm trying to stack images taken with my Canon 5DII. Lights and Darks were taken using ASAIR Pro app, but I couldn't get flats to work on ASIAIR, so I just shot them directly on camera, and I've done the same for bias. I'm assuming this is the reason for the error showing. Is there a workaround that would allow me to still stack it all together?
  10. Thank you Fifeskies Good point about FOV of camera, i was only taking into consideration the guidescope fov vs the main scope.
  11. Thank you StevieDvd Just to clarify you say "Software PA alignment basically does that by using your main scope/camera and platesolving" However I plan to be using my guide scope for that as I don't believe my DSLR can be used for this? Hence my question, does my main scope and guide scope need to be precisely aligned to the same spot?
  12. Hi all, I plan to use my DSLR on my main scope and use my guide scope with guide cam for PA. I'm using AZ GTI in EQ mode, so no polar scope. Does my guide scope need to be perfectly aligned with my main scope to have good PA? Or same as for guiding just roughly in the same direction? Main scope will be WO ZS61, guide scope probably 50mm.
  13. Thank you @knobby Still learning, those are single shots, so far I'm unlucky with my stacked efforts, too much light pollution and my processing skills are rubbish. I'm using DSS and GIMP.
  14. Hi all, I was going to join in as a 'lurker' but @knobby has called my bluff 😉 I'm relatively new to the hobby, always enjoyed stargazing, mostly using old set of binoculars. I've recently acquired Celestron 4SE planing to use is for some camera imaging - if i ever get chance to use it, it has been cloudy ever since i got it. I'm also started doing bit of astrophotograhpy using my DSLR on it's own. Joined forums to learn from others and share experience. Joined the local group hoping that there might be some local activity and cooperation opportunities. Few images that I've manged to take so far.
