  1. Hi, Thank you to everybody who has commented thus far. I have had my DSLR 450D for a month (my first). It came with no lens as I plan to have a proper crack at Astrophotography (sadly just camera to eyepiece thus far). Then I thought I'd get a lens so that I had one. It became clear that it was far cheaper to get an EOS film camera with a lens on eBay (with autofocus) than a lens. I struck lucky with an EOS 300 winning the bid at £6.50 that came with a Centon flash gun (which works on mycamera), a Canon AF 28 - 80m - what I was after and this big Sigma lens. Those of you who said M42 I now know were spot on as theT2 only got half way and was certainly not up to the job even with the tripod mounting ring to put the lens directly on a tripod. As the last reply noted the T2 does not depress the aperture pin. However, I have now ordered a flanged M42 which should work ok.
  2. Hi, I would be really pleased if anyone can help. I have a mystery telephoto lens and am trying to identify the camera it would fit to as it is no good for mine (Canon 450D). EDIT: I now realise its a generic M42 SIGMA - XQ HIGH POWER ZOOM MACRO SYSTEM 1:4.5 f=70mm - 230mm Multi Coated. It is a heavy solid metal construct and seems to be a high spec (internal ribbed baffling) so much have cost a lot when it was first released very many moons ago. It is manual only. It has a T2 thread at the eyepiece end and a little rod that presses down to activate the internal stopper (using a T2" to EOS adapter does not push down this lever so that is not an option it seems). EDIT: I NOW REALISE ITS M42 AND YOU CAN GET AN ADAPTER WITH A FLANGE TO DEPRESS THE APERTURE PIN - I was fooled by my T2 fitting half way and presumed a damaged thread was the issue. It also has a tripod attachment ring (necessary due to significant weight) Attached are some pictures. Once again thank you for any help that can be given.
