  1. unfortunately it doesn't look possible as the Mac version of this tool is quite basic, and I can't see any option to do that. Would definitely be interested in the next version. I'm going to see if I can get oacapture to work and output FITS for LIveStacking in Jocular. I now use a Windows desktop mostly so don't have this issue at home, but I'm travelling next week and will take my Macbook and a lightweight mount. Altair support on Mac is there, but limited. Would be nice to get some combo working if I can. Will let you know if this works out. Thanks for your help so far!
  2. 0001.fitsi have attached a file, its blank, i.e just through the cam not attached to anything. And I do think that Altair Capture doesn't "officially" support FITS, so it may not be a true fits file, so more the fault of Altair Capture rather than Jocular. I was hoping it would just work but seems not.
  3. Using Altair Capture on Catalina, had some weird issue but is now writing to the directory, but the files are being put in the invalid directory. Covered in clouds so not a real test, and I know the FITS output from Altair Capture may not be correct FITS spec, but can you please tell me the difference between ignore, invalid and unused? I didn't see it in the guide. Thanks
  4. Does Jocular lock the watched folder, can't seem to write to it from Altair Capture? Is there any way to change the path?
  5. ok thanks James, i have the same bug with no icons on it. Let me know if you find a workaround, i gave "everyone' read/write permissions on the folder but doesn't seem to work.
  6. Hi @Martin Meredith where can i download most recent version of Jocular please? is it from this thread or is there a web page? thanks
  7. Anyone got this working on a Mac? getting an error Unable to locate an executable at "/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk-16.0.1.jdk/Contents/Home/bin/apt even though i just installed the JDK
  8. So given the above 2 models I mentioned, which would be the best buy?
  9. Hi I'm also looking at this. Are we saying the the ZWO 183 MC would be a better buy at £519 (FLO) rather than equivalent AA 183C at £499 due to set point cooling?
  10. Anyone have a Nikon D3500 working with Sharpcap (or APT or even NINA?) I have tried the Ascom.dslr driver and it detects the camera but driver is crashing or app just seems to stop responding. Thanks Greg
  11. sounds a bit less destructive! can you remove the top of these eyepieces? i am talking about the bit surrounded by rubber, from the main barrel?
  12. So I brought a cheap finder off ebay which works well with my 25mm Skywatcher eyepiece. But I wanted a diagonal so bought a cheap one from ebay. Now I can't achieve focus as the minimum focal length is too long, I.e not enough in-focus. So I was thinking if I could unscrew the top part of the eyepiece and attach it direct to the metal barrel that slots inside the finder. Would this work? Does it actually unscrew? It doesn't seem to want to. I don't want to damage the eyepiece if I can help it. Thanks Greg
  13. Hi, I have read this thread with interest. I just wanted to say I admire you for the depth of research you are doing by asking advice on this forum. I wish I had done that when I bought my first scope last year (and I am almost 30 years older than you!). Are you in the UK? Doesn't matter if not but here there are some good resources for buying in the second hand market. astrobuysell.com/uk Gumtree and even local Facebook pages. Why not buy something cheap and see if astronomy is for you before throwing in a lot of money? You can buy a computerised goto Mak, that's second hand a lot cheaper than if you buy new. And I bet there will be some unwanted Xmas presents coming up for sale soon, say a Celestron 127SLT or similar. These do come available quite often, or if buying new I would be looking for something like this https://www.firstlightoptics.com/sky-watcher-az-gti-wifi/sky-watcher-skymax-127-az-gti.html Very similar but I don't see them come up on the used market much. I have this mount and it makes a huge difference compared to doing things manually. Either way you are doing the right thing by asking a lot of questions. There are some real experts here and you will get good advice. Just remember to consider your budget limits as this can be an expensive hobby. Good luck.
  14. Thanks all. Do you know if Astroberry works with az-gti?

    Xmas newbie

    Great Xmas present! Welcome
  16. Hi, I've used a Mac until now but its not easy getting comparable software eg Sharpcap and processing software, so am looking to get a minPC or even a compute stick for EEVA/AP setup (sharpcap etc, currently using a planetary cam but may also used DSLR). Mostly for image capture and live stacking, I have access to a desktop if needed for post-processing. So looking at a couple of options for mini PCs, if all other things are equal (Windows 10 64bit, 4GBRAM, 128GB SSD etc), whats better, a newer Atom Z8350 (1.4GHz Quad-Core, released around 2015), or an older i5-2520M (2.5GHz Dual-Core, released around 2011).What Looking at benchmarks it seems the much older i5 is actually a much better CPU. What about compute stick, nicely price and no moving parts, Atom Z8330, 2GB, 32GB, WIndows 10 32bit - powerful enough? Thanks Greg
  17. Hi, I live in a place where we have quite a bit of LP from the nearby town. Sometimes the sky looks orange when we have total cloud cover. I'm thinking of getting a CLS filter for imaging. Budget allows for choice of the following: https://www.firstlightoptics.com/light-pollution-reduction-imaging/explore-scientific-cls-nebula-filter-1-25-2-inch.html https://www.firstlightoptics.com/optolong-filters/optolong-cls-light-pollution-filter.html Any experience on either of these, or an other recommendation? Was going to go for a 2 inch. Have approx £80 to spend. Will be using a colour ccd or stock dslr. Thanks Greg
  18. Can anyone let me know if the above extender and t to c adapter will work? Think it should but want to check before I buy more bits. Thanks
