  1. Thanks for the replies. I'd get that invention patented, you could be on to something there 😆
  2. Hi, is anyone aware of a holder for an iPhone 13 that fits binoculars for, obviously, taking images?
  3. Hi, I have a pair of Celestron 25x100 bins and was wondering how they compare to the Orion Giant view 25x100's. Thinking of changing my Celestrons but, obviously, would want something better. Any help much appreciated
  4. Hi all The weather the last few days has made observing a non event. Instead, I've found myself trawling the internet for things that might make my binocular viewing a bit easier. Amongst other things, I came across parallelogram mounts which look quite interesting. What are everyone's views on them? From an observing point of view, are they worth it and do they make that much difference? On the Orion site they have a couple, one of which takes up to 80mm (I have 25 x 100's) so would not be 'meaty' enough from what I've heard. The other comes under the label 'monster' with a monster price! Are there any good quality alternatives available? I already have a Paragon-plus XHD tripod so would obviously be looking for something that fits that. Thanks
  5. Many thanks for all the suggestions, been a great help 👍
  6. Being new to observing the sky properly, (as opposed to staring up at it wonder), and recently purchasing 25 x 100 binoculars I have managed to locate a number of major stars along with eye viewing a few constellations, and am happy with what I've achieved on the few nights the weather has allowed me some clearish skies. It took a lot of staring, scanning and head scratching but I managed to find Eddies coaster and NGC7000 (North American Nebula), but when it comes to the likes of M51, M81, M82 etc etc I point the bins in the general direction after consulting my star atlas but haven't the foggiest idea what I should be looking for! Am I the only one to have fallen foul of this phenomena? What I'm asking is is there a source of photo's, (preferably not all taken through a telescope), in book or on-line form that will give me an idea of what to look for? I've spent a few hours scanning the sky oohing and aahhing at the wondrous sights but would now like to put names, or numbers, to what I see. Any help/suggestions would be gratefully received. Thanks
  7. Thanks for the suggestions, time for some searching 👍
  8. Thanks Dave but that won't work for me, I only have square windows 😂
  9. Hi I have a compass that allows me to work out the azimuth but is there anything you can suggest that would help me work out the elevation of an object? 👍
  10. Might seem a stupid question, bear with me I'm new, but where are the images from?
  11. Thanks for the welcome everyone 👍 Looks like tonight could be a clear one (downloaded Clear Outside, very handy little app), so hope to see some great things. Might start with Cassiopeia and the nearby clusters. 😊
  12. Just getting into astronomy properly after many years of 'looking' but not studying the night sky. Should have started back then but circumstances had other ideas. So far I've used binoculars, I invested in a pair of Celestron Skymaster 25 x 100 as I got them at a very good price along with an Orion Paragon-Plus XHD Extra tripod. Only been out once with this setup (typical British weather, fine until you want to do something outdoors 🙄) But what I saw took my breath away....where did all those stars come from?? 😳 Looking forward to some clear skies.
