  1. I'm not sure I'd be using a filter wheel with a DSLR camera setup tbh
  2. Yep I had similar things and I remember starting trying to aim for 5 plus hours if I could...the 2600MC blew me away when I got my first sub out of it, totally different animal so don't compare the two too much.
  3. Is your camera modded? Just looking at that and what I managed with a modded camera in just over 2 hours of data and your picture looks great in comparison so well done. It has also been pretty warm lately which my DSLR hated when I was using it in the warmer months. I think I also was using longer 4/5 min subs as well but that has its own problems. I think, if I'm reading it correctly, that tutorial is using a 2600mc pro which yes will have substantially different to your DSLR
  4. Yep, after watching a number of videos people had similar things with ABE
  5. Been awful this season tbh looking at subs there is some from September and then some from December work hasn't helped in that regard despite WFH
  6. Yes starting to see this now. So below is what spat out after DBE playing around And seems flats have done there job here, some light processing gets me the below which isn't too shabby....PixInsight is a little new to me but then, everyday is a school day
  7. Not in a completely dark room no but I may build a box to help next time
  8. Not sure...I've taken darks for the M31 set as well so going to have a play with that and see what it does.
  9. @vlaiv so managed to get the camera off, lens cap screwed in and new darks taken. Re-using the older flats To my eyes the older flats now seem to work much better with the darks than the new set I took but still not quite there. So having a mess around and using DBE instead of ABE with a few points gets me the below, which looks MUCH better. Cropped and a little finer placement gets as always, processing is hard lol
  10. These were taken on the scope yep, refractor with the lens cap on...I'll bench it and take them again and see what I get.
  11. @vlaiv I did actually manage another target that night for which I do have some darks for (only 40 mins of data mind). Doing all of the above, STF stretch and ABE spits out the below The correction seems better, below is without flats and dark flats. I'm wondering if i've caught some clouds in the stack somewhere
  12. Thanks @vlaiv i'll sort out some darks for that and take another stab at it
  13. Yep had dark flats but no darks for these...tbh darks on previous shots haven't really been needed
  14. Hello, So hopefully someone can help me here. I've been using my 2600MC pro a few times now and mostly it has been fine until the other week when I decided to have a go without the L-extreme filter. I set up everything like I usually would and started capture on M31 to see how it fared with my previous attempt and the DSLR. Managed to capture an hour and forty minutes worth of data but my flats seem to be messing up, I have re-taken them but it's still not right. I am using the APT flats aid which has given good results previously. Below is the stacked (DSS) image with STF stretch and ABE in PixInsight (lights, flats and dark flats) Below is a single light frame Current flat used to create the image above I am guessing I am doing something pretty stupid but can't seem to work it out. Any help would be appreciated.
  15. So managed the one clear night in 3 months the other day and thought, as there was no moon, i'd see what things were like without the L-Extreme filter on the 2600MC pro. I managed to get about 40 mins on M51 made of 30 second exposures, things look ok until you start stretching things around but it soon becomes a bit of a mess. Its a pretty quick stretch and level in PS and I know there are gradient issues but what are the red components? Are they issues with the flats? Maybe, being that it's been so long i've just messed up a step here.
  16. Yep the second one is a step up and is really nice, (especially at only 2 hours) well done!!
  17. Ok, two things. 1) sharp cap pro or other software to help polar align, it's cheap and will guide you through it...I hate doing it on my HEQ5 manually. 2) star alignment it asks to chose which star you want to look at, chose one away from the NCP (use planetarium software to find the best one) and go there, it's wanting you to put the center of the main scope FOV onto the star you chose...now with a DSLR attached it can be quite a pain so I used to start with a wide FOV eyepiece and then switch to a cross hair one later for fine adjustment. Also worth noting that the mount may be moving very very slowly when you press the arrows, the slew speed can be changed (I think it's number 2 on the handset).... alternatively to the above, get an eqmod cable, get APT and plate solving working and never worry about star alignment again.
  18. So with the house move ongoing I'm looking at small incremental improvements to the rig rather than spending $$$ on ioptron kit and a 100mm esprit hahah and one of the areas I'm looking at is the focuser on my current scope, a Skywatcher equinox 80. It works ok but with the 2600mc pro and field flattener I'd like something a bit more meaty and with the ability to screw it all together. It's pretty old so it was only the moonlights that seemed to do a direct swap out but not sure the new range will work. Has anyone had one and managed to find an off the shelf upgrade?
  19. That is a nice improvement well done!
  20. I think this was taken with my general light pollution filter... interesting that you're only using 1.25 doesn't that restrict the FOV? I guess it depends where in the imaging train it is.
  21. Yes banding can be an issue...it's also been pretty warm recently which won't be helping. I know it's a bit old now but I followed the video from Astrobackyard
  22. Nice shot. 5 hours is quite a bit of data to work with, how have you processed it? For the 600d what iso are you using? Don't bother with the ddark. Are you dithering between shots? This is about 4 hours of data using the same camera.
  23. Thank you for your kind words! I've been mainly imaging the last year and a half (starting with a DSLR, stop watch and manual release cable ) although I purchased the scope whilst at uni but never managed to get an image out of it before it got put into storage. The data probably has a lot more in it but it's just working out how to get it...will need to give it another go and read up some more
  24. That has some superb detail well done...target bookmarked thanks
