  1. Hi all, I have posted a few things regarding which eyepieces to use with my 'Bresser messier 10" dobsonian". I had decided to go with the 7mm OVL Nirvana UWA-82 Ultrawide eyepiece. However upon checking at stores, they are all currently out of stock until around 2 weeks from now.. I have some people coming next Thursday to use the telescope (if the weather goes well) and would have liked to try and view some planets with that eyepiece. However the shop assistant has suggested that the '8mm Baader Hyperion' is a good alternative, however it is a jump in price approx £35 more than the OVL Nirvana. It's not a huge problem, as I still have the 25mm, but I am an amateur and feel with the 25mm, to view DSO's, I need to have a lot of practice.. But is the '8mm baader hyperion' worth the jump in price, or should I just wait for the OVL to come back into stock? If I should wait, are there any suggestions as to what I can do with SPL 25mm eyepiece that comes with my telescope? Any suggestions as to what I should try and view or practice looking at..? There will be a new moon in a few days.. Any suggestions are welcome Thanks for reading! XD
  2. Hi all, I created a topic a few weeks ago regarding my curiosity on which eyepieces to go for, the scope comes with a 25mm eyepiece. I had some great recommendations and feel that I will proceed with the recommended 'OVL Nirvana ES 82° Eyepiece'. I was informed that the 4mm and 7mm are good for planetary viewing with the Bresser Messier 10" Dobsonian (Its specs are '254/1270 f/5'). So as I can only go for one due to starting a few different hobbies and having spent a lot of money, which should I go for.. The 7mm or the 4mm? I am especially interested in planetary viewing for the moment but I will move on to other things as I gain more experience. I was also wondering if a Barlow is worth investing in? Also maybe any filters or other things that might be useful for a beginner like me? If so can you recommend any barlows that would work with my scope and the eyepiece that I am getting..? Sorry for all the nooby questions and thanks for taking the time to read!
  3. I forgot to ask, what would you use the 30mm and 35mm 2" eyepieces for with the bresser 10" dob?
  4. Thanks for the info... What would you use the 16mm and 7mm for with your bresser 10"?
  5. I purchased a bresser 10" dob recently and would like to start investigating which eyepieces I should purchase. It's specs are '254/1270 f/5'. It comes with a 25mm eyepiece. I have been looking at an Olivon 18mm with long eye relief for a good price, I am wondering if 18mm is a good eyepiece to go for after the 25mm that I already own? I would like to purchase a 10mm so I can have 3 eyepieces to choose from (10mm, 18mm and 25mm) do think I should get 18mm or 15mm for the scope I have? I am a complete noob with this subject so please excuse my lack of knowledge. Thanks for your input!!
  6. I will consider investing in one at some point but at the moment I wouldn't mind learning to use a Cheshire. Thanks for all the tips!!
  7. Hey, thanks for the offer. I am happy to purchase one today. But maybe I could ask if it's possible to come and watch you collimate? To get an understanding of how it is done, and also maybe try and grasp some other aspects of how dobsonians work.. I mean if that is okay with you of course I learn so much better when actually getting a hands on demonstration.
  8. I don't have a collimation tool, could you recommend any? I have read about a few, but am unsure exactly which one to go for. I've read that laser collimators can be inaccurate..? Thanks, Jake
  9. I purchased the Bresser messier 10" dobsonian telescope and wanted to test it out last night. Upon looking through the eyepiece (25mm that comes with the scope) , all I can see when trying to observe anything, i will pan over a star and I will get a blodge of light which looks like the rods supporting the secondary mirror. I'm unable to get anything. I am a complete novice and have no idea what i'm doing while trying to operate a telescope :'D I appreciate any and all advice
  10. I have purchased the scope mentioned in the title and am looking to see which accessories I should buy for it. I have seen about UHC filters being good for aiding a clear image of nebulae. Is there any particular one I should buy? I am not sure of the difference between the 1.25" and 2"? I am a complete noob and don't really understand anything about telescopes. Any recommendations for any filters/eye pieces will be greatly appreciated! Thanks for reading
  11. I have made a few topics about buying a beginner telescope, I am a complete beginner with no experience. I have been recommended both the 'Skywatcher Skyliner 8" Dobsonian" and the "Bresser 8" Dobsonian" for the kind of use I would like. However I have also seen online where people are saying that 10" scopes are a substantial improvement and provide much better views of galaxies etc. The Bresser 8" is £389 and the Bresser 10" is £510. for the extra £120, is it worth that much more? I am looking to see deep sky objects, however I don't live in a perfect dark sky area, but according to comments from previous topics, the area I am in is not that bad and I should be able to see plenty. Thanks for taking the time to read this! I did not want to go above £400 really but now I am thinking it might be worth the investment. Feel free to share your thoughts and suggestions on alternative scopes or any advice you may have that relates to this topic.
  12. Okay thanks for the tips. Would I need the 1.25" or 2"? Please excuse the nooby questions XD
  13. Thanks for all the information there, that is very helpful! I htink I will go with the Bresser. Could you reccommend any eye pieces that I should be buying separately also filters..? I am a complete noob so I don't really know how any of that works tbh
  14. Hey thanks for that, could you explain why it is better than the Skywatcher Skyliner 200P?
  15. Hey, thanks for the response. I thought about getting a used one but they worry me as I am a complete beginner and do not know what to look for..
  16. I made a previous post similar to this, I was recommended the 'Skywatcher Skyliner 200P' for the type of use I am looking for. I am looking to observe deep space objects as well as planets and other closer objects. However everywhere I have looked at buying a Skyliner 200p has been out of stock and I was informed by one of the shops that this is due to the coronavirus situation and the particular company of skywatcher not being able distribute that model atm as they are a Taiwanese/Chinese company. Now I could either wait until China have sorted their situation out or look for an alternative scope of similar or better specs? The Skywatcher skyliner 200p is around £300 and I would not want to stretch far beyond that but I am open to suggestions Please feel free to recommend any models you feel would be suitable for what I am looking for
  17. Hey Mike, That's not far at all, I really appreciate your offer and will probably take you up on grabbing some tips off you! I am a complete noob to this world, astronomy has always fascinated me but i've never got around to buying a telescope. So I hope you'll excuse my lack of knowledge. Upon looking at the map, it does show that where I am is in the orange/yellow area, I hope that it isn't too bad. Are there any local astronomy clubs at all? Again thanks for the help! Jake
  18. Ah, well Loughor is quite close to Gorseinon, Dunvant is a little closer to the Gower AONB 😕 I will try it out and fingers crossed, otherwise we should move closer to the Gower. Thanks for the recommendations Much appreciated
  19. Apologies for the lengthy topic, I am having a bit of trouble deciding on a scope to buy, I have a rough budget of approximately £350. I live in a small town called Loughor which is outside of Swansea in Wales, UK. The back of my house is facing a load of fields which doesn't appear to have a lot of light pollution and when looking out my bedroom window, it is nice to see some stars as we are not used to seeing them where we were living before. However I am wondering if this is sufficient enough for a telescope such as the 'Skywatcher skyliner 200p'? I was recommended this scope by an adviser from a shop that sells telescopes. I do not drive at the moment, however I am aiming to pass this year. Portability does not matter too much to me as I will hopefully be driving ASAP but I am wondering if I could use this scope in my back garden. My postcode is 'SA4 6UF', in case that is useful for understanding the level of light pollution in my area. My house is also quite high up, not sure of the exact elevation above sea level but perhaps that would also benefit my viewing experience... The light pollution map seems to show my area in a orange/yellow area so not quite red. But my house is not in the centre of Loughor and as said before, it has lots of countryside out the back and from the front, we can see right down to the estuary because we are high up and doesn't appear to be all that light polluted. Thanks for taking the time to read this, sorry for the amount of information I have written, I am trying to make a careful decision about which to buy. So far I have only been recommended the Skyliner 200P and the assistant confidently said that it would be the best choice in my circumstances, however I am happy for anyone to either suggest alternatives or also agree with what he is telling me.
