  1. Not having much luck with the planets. Conditions seem to be serving up a healthy dose of mush.....either that or the achro is just not up to the task :icon_scratch:

  2. Don't you just love it when the forecast promises clear skies, only to change at the last minute...

Yep, a regular feature in my life. Plan all day for an Astro night and find you have a spare evening on your hands.

  3. BOO, DHL fail 🙁

  4. Here's hoping DHL are on form tomorrow, new glass and goodies inbound. Just in time for the rain!

  5. Well, my astro sabbatical didn't last long. New scope inbound, but keeping it modest this time...honestly

Been there and had the t-shirt too! Good luck with the new scope! :)

  6. Apollo 15x70 Bins on the way :bino2:

  7. Will someone hide my bank cards & wallet, delete my Paypal account and stop me from spending please!?

  8. Lottery win required....

  9. Finally getting around to some observing with the AA 102ED-R. Which end do I look down again?

So what were your thoughts on your new scope?

So far, so good Alan. Accepting the smaller diameter than the Equinox 120 and consequently dimmer image, I'm very happy with it. It has certainly made a MASSIVE difference to setting up, so much quicker and easier on the AZ4 that I can see this scope getting more use over the years.

Mostly been observing Jupiter, the detail is there that I saw in the 120, just not quite as bright an image, but really not a deal breaker.

  10. Looking forward to Happy New Refractor day @PAS tomorrow :)

  11. First proper look at Venus this morning through the new Opticstar 80/600 achro. How lovely to see the crescent shape presented so sharply!

  12. Exasperation is setting in with this hobby....decided to try imaging again due to LP killing visual observation, only to be clouded out time & time again after first sub.

One certainly needs at least one other hobby to run parallel with astronomy of any kind, esp in the UK with our cloudy weather and the apparent love some of our neighbours have of bright lights ? I also do plenty of XC cycling and practice bushcraft type life skills to keep me occupied.

Well an unexpected half hour with the ST80 before bed last night was welcome! First decent session with the scope, which I modded straight out of the box. M27, the ring in Lyra and double cluster in Perseus, suprised how well the scope performed :)

Woohoo, a whole buch'o'subs on M27 last night. Bloody tired today, not complaining though :)

  13. Cooler temps, heavy rainfall but clear skies tonight. Might actually get some good seeing and some detail on Mars!

  14. Oh no, Tele Vue have landed @FLO, now I'm doomed!

  15. Really fancying a C9.25, hmmm.........

  16. Jupiter appears to be holding up reasonably well to high mag already. Shaping up for a nice transit :)

M42 is looking pretty good tonight, even despite the glare form the moon. Hope you get some good data. :)

Bad seeing here. Stars twinkling through murky moonlit air. My 100 will have to wait.

Good for you, hope your new direction goes well.

I am doing similar things, just bought a used Celestron AVX and a new ED80.

      Clear Skies, one day soon.

  24. Stuff it, I'm staying up late. The only good weather is forecast between midnight and 0400, I'll just have to be rubbish in work tomorrow!

Great thanks Alan, really good to get behind the scopes again. Andromeda, Dumbell, Pleiades and a bunch of globs plus some low power cruising with frac :)
