    Brilliant James, this has made my day. Now if I could only get the INDI speaking pixies to start behaving again and stop mischievously spinning the filter wheel non stop. See other THREAD

  2. My mount is connected to the USB 3 hub using a USB to serial cable. The hub is connected to the RPi which is running the StellarMate OS. KStars automatically starts on the RPi when it boots, but it doesn’t need to be running. KStars on the Windows PC is just running as a client, Ekos connects to the RPi over WiFi. The RPi runs an INDI server that connects to all of the equipment. KStars/Ekos running on the Windows PC just sends commands to the remote INDI server, so no Ascom or drivers needed on the PC as the RPi talks to the equipment. It was really easy to setup. I hope that makes sense.

I have posted this issue to the INDI forum at https://indilib.org/forum/ccds-dslrs/5884-atikone-internal-filter-wheel-problem.html and to the Atik support forum at https://forums.atik-cameras.com/index.php?topic=5396.0 I have also sent a support ticket direct to Atik. I can’t believe that I’m the only one with this issue. I’m thinking that if I am the only one, then it must be an issue with my camera, but why would it work flawlessly under indies? If I am not the only one then it must be a driver issue.

  4. Calling all Linux INDI
    I'm having issues with my AtikOne when I connect using Ekos the camera connects but the internal filter wheel keeps rotating. This happens whether I connect using Ekos through KStars directly on the RPi or on the remote windows PC. I have tried different USB ports on the USB3 hub and USB ports on the RPi. I have tried 2 different USB cables and 2 different power leads.

    I have had this problem previously. Last time I fixed it by connecting the camera directly to the windows pc and connected to the camera and cycled through the filters with the software. Once reconnected to the RPi it appeared to work. Unfortunately, this fix hasn’t worked this time. I’m a bit stuck.

    The RPi is an RPi4 running the beta version of StellarMate OS for RPi4

  5. Trevor Jones at AstroBackyard on YouTube has just posted a review video of the EQ8-R that might be really useful for people to get a feel for this new mount. He has had this on loan from Skywatcher for review. the video can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzhd09j_Jc0.

    One question that came to mind was, will Skywatcher be offering an upgrade kit for existing EQ8 users? That new saddle with usb hub and power would be really useful.

  6. Sorry to revive an old thread, but I was recently sorting out my old photos and came across the ones from my 2011 observatory build. I decided to create a bit of a slideshow, YouTube video. You can check it out at https://youtu.be/KQN69-L-tc8
    I am also thinking of doing a bit of an update video showing how the observatory has developed over the years to its current state. I wondered if anyone thought that this would be of interest.

  7. Interesting thanks for the replies. I have been impressed with a lot of the images that have been produced with this camera. I would highly recommend watching the YouTube videos posted by AstroBackyard who has produced some stunning results. The main thing for me is to have something that I can process at the end of the night, which at the moment I don’t get this unless I want to create mono images.

I currently do most of my imaging with my AtikOne 6.0, I have a full LRGB filter set and Ha,OIII & SII filters. with the really poor weather we have had over the last couple of years and work commitments I am finding harder and harder to get to a point where I have enough data in the relevant filters, to compose final or even partly completed images. I have lots of part finished projects where I have the luminescence but not a complete set of RGB, or projects where I have managed to get the Ha but not the OIII & SII. It is so disheartening and frustrating. To this end I am thinking of adding an ASI294MC Pro one shot colour camera to my setup and perhaps a dual ban filter. My thinking is that with the larger sensor size and the ability to gather the colour data in one go, I would be able to more quickly get the data to add to my Luminescence and narrow band images to start to get some more finished images, albeit with reduced sensitivity and detail that could be achieved with my mono setup.

  9. I'm quite lucky my warm room is only 1.5m from the mount in the observatory so I can clearly see the desktop screen from the mount. I run Kstars on the windows pc with everything connected to the RPi on the mount. But I have used real VNC on my iPad to both monitor what is going on, on the RPi desktop and the PC desktop its free and really straight forward to connect too using the different IP addresses. I have found that running TightVNC server on the windows PC is better than the offering from RealVNC, and TightVNC is free, RealVNC's viewer is still the best I've used.
