  1. thanks guys- I also thought of buying a "donor" scope for the mirror, especially used, but 10" dobs aren't very common, so I gave up that search. Regarding OOUK, I do have them on my short list as well. Eric
  2. Hello, I am planning a 10" travel dob build, and I am currently in the (frustrating) stage of sourcing the primary mirror. In the US we have few retail options for primary mirrors, and only a few custom builders, that are both very expensive and very long lead times- any most of them don't do 250 mm. I have found company called Astroreflect (sold by teleskop service) that has the perfect mirror, a 250 mm f6.3, in stock for a reasonable price. the problem is I can't find anything about them. they have a nice website, but I can't find a single review from anyone who has used their mirrors. I would love to hear from anyone who has first hand experience with their products. thanks! Eric
  3. Hey everyone, I got a Nexus pro this summer to use with my Dob and it works great. I saw in the manual it can control an AzEq5 mount, so I ordered the cable from astrodevices, but I can't get it to work with my mount. I have the RJ end plugged into the mount, the USB plugged into the Nexus, and I followed the set up instructions in the manual for setting the encoder steps and the USB communication settings- but no luck, when I do an encoder test I get no response. Anyone else have this problem, and if so how did you fix it? I have an email into Astodevices, but they haven't gotten back, and I'm guessing theyare slammed like everyone else. For what its worth, my mount is around 3-4 YO, and is the EU/global version which was purchased in the EU and brought to the US, don't know if there are differences in the firmware or something. thanks, Eric
  4. thanks, I'm going to get the one with the standard tripod. Eric
  5. Hi all, I am getting a Skywatcher AZ-EQ5 mount, and I was going to buy one new with the short tripod/pier, the standard model sold in the US. Then I found a potentially nice used one- however this one is the European model with a standard tripod. Anyone have any thoughts on pros/cons for the 2 mounts? I will be doing mainly visual with and SCT or refractor. I've heard either mount is a little short without the pier extension. I'm 6'2", so I would probably think about getting one of these either way. thanks, Eric
