  1. My biggest problem is my wife is short and I am tall so if I raise the telescope to much she can't use it , so I am going for the option of not looking at targets over head so the leg problem won't come up , I still needed to balance it with Telrad on as well as spotter scope which the wheel balance weights worked 100% and also let me side telescope up in the dove tail by an inch
  2. Hi Revs welcome to the best forum and best hobby by light years
  3. Great idea Ron but once this lock down is over the telescope will be going up the caravan which is on a fishing lake a nice dark site , but that also means setting up in a field just for the summer then back home in the winter
  4. Hi Lee the weather is the curse of the new Telescope , warm welcome to one big family
  5. Hi also remember a telescope can't kill you , just your wife if she knows how much you spend lol
  6. Hi can you tell us what parts of the sky you can see from your site
  7. Hi all I did this video it may help this link is not working so go-to one below
  8. Hi everyone ok here's the update golf club weights didn't make any impact , the car wheel balance weights work really well I have raised the telescope an inch and added a Telrad and balance is perfect I had to use 3 strips of , I had more I could have raised the telescope 2 inches but 1 inch will help it may even stop the telescope from hitting the leg All the weights are stuck on the back of the mirror mount in layers so can't be seen ,just waiting to give it a test run if the sky is clear later
  9. Hi get stellarium plus its worth the £7.50 you can also use this to move your goto telescope to your target it will tell you what star is what when you point your phone at it
  10. Out of interest I just checked mine the synscan app says 178m the map says 174m so not that far out for me , but I do turn on the synscan app and leave it for about 3 minutes so it has time to give a better reading
  11. Well I was lucky Eton college near Windsor let the public in to there observatory they have a huge telescope I lined up for about 2 hours to Get in but was so worth it , I will be 100 when it comes round again I may not live that long , but I can still remember what I saw through the eyepiece and will never forget it
  12. Get a go-to but the EQ5 may not be up to the job due to the weight the camera adds most start with HEQ5 as minimum NEQ6 is really good
  13. Hi Carole I went for the golf weights as they are oval not square, look on eBay the golf ones are pricy compared to the square car wheel balance weights but the car ones are so cheap even for a box https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20-x-STICK-ON-SELF-ADHESIVE-WHEEL-BALANCING-WEIGHTS-FOR-VAN-CAR-MOTORCYCLE/133390391723?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item1f0eafd9ab:g:RCUAAOSwQzVem6KB&enc=AQAEAAACcIQvEcHUrT7nmUC3yY5qbPyaBN1nJEDYW8MyypsJPgXKMrJ5ZnoiL5k7zr%2FQKfBqzdLNBL6MucPasbkEaHk5HlWxRpm6enp7qcTJLDa0T%2FBpY9YkarNc1MbvNWrY3%2FcmGjkBZbPSTV8M1ir3p58g2okF2SFG3CixGmRaUADsMXvsyUFEjhWiergVD4uVSZQbR3DWD2tUhNZeE7a0ji%2FBMUrrEJsxSzCRde1r78uUZk8%2Ftcolywohf1BLV7yYCA4TczwqeNUDIVNMNqjMrBxwDq7x1%2FLza2fFL9D40VE1ljjQO%2FuODTh3i%2FYX8w9ySOhm5uCkPkCEtVEIoyqe%2Fqap8wmzHSXzcZ0TiZu9vaHKUv5edcGpr1hwRD9w9b1ZHvT2JSaZ3K6QsFHwYmULfedfGEe3VYiNqJYUwDshRrSihCYlhz%2BlfeBGyuwGieMbNaPTxMNLFVDraTcc77TkuA7HI8zLdjF7oTyCT7E9Q%2Byy%2BPC8KhN9QRZovXL9L6qqlREUTOp1hILeB4H0cxdyfGluMf%2B8yStG%2FPy%2Fhryb5qZ0qIPafVUQFF3yxCt1IVXDU4%2F%2Ft0os01JyX5wMJTOlCt6%2FMINFkAE7j3nlfHKOc0BZvBfphAYi06GI47teNyEcH1LshQeFur0EnCNKeg4zothWtB2WpGDNZ2g264wD5fTojmL2XMSOywWHAQFK4VjgiF%2FYwUFotTUn6RSD60PbtiA%2BeWPFDVWpbO4GDt%2FfCj0JQAckPKtODMU4NaEm6zQh2fB5LMXyND12JiB%2BlAx71sPNw5xY0pMeVnQJLVC%2BRYyQrJgEkLGSFBpPtPSDzRpPyRF0rg%3D%3D&checksum=13339039172367c6462a5a35486e81ae3228e3a070f5 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Masters-Lead-Weight-Stick-On-Strips-8-Pack-New-Golf-Club-Head-Irons-Putter/401265796771?hash=item5d6d4e26a3:m:mby4tHccbXT69QUkcgC43eA
  14. Hi a while back I had to move mirror forward to get it to focus so I have a gap at the back of the OTA were the fan is , I don't think I need a lot of weight so just to try it ,I have some golf club balance weights coming they are sticky backed oval in shape if I use all I will have 24grams extra weight I could always add some car wheel balance weights as well , I will let you know how I get on
  15. Hi Neo and welcome the clouds and rain are the curse of the new Telescope lol
  16. Hi everyone as you know the upgrade bolts with the ratchet hits the polar scope and you can't refit polar cap as the ratchet is bigger than it used to be , Zolton at 365astronomy does upgrade bolts which look like the bolts the mount came with but are tougher stainless steel he has the short ones in stock and has the longer one coming in next week sometime just in case any one wants some
  17. Thanks guys I will work on the problem , I have some magnets I could fit in the bottom of the OTA to add weight can't do it at the moment due to the rain ,it to big to set up in doors lol

Hi and welcome to the best and friendliest forum for light years
  19. Hi get these 2 apps the first is polar alignment pro you can do a day time alignment with this app and will show you what you polar scope should look like through the polar scope the second is synscanlnit2.1 this is free and gives you all the info you need for the hand set it will also give you the polar scope view as well so you know you have it right , go into the hand set and clear the PAE data , after you do your star alignment go to you first target of its out press escape then press and hold escape button you will get a message to say centre object in eyepiece use buttons I hand controller once it's aligned press enter it then stored this data in the PAE the more times you do this the better it gets mine used to be miles off now it's only mm in eyepiece
  20. Hi I use polar alignment pro app it does everything right from setting the mount it also does day time alignment I found it to really good I checked it again last night I polar align using the polar scope then checked with the app and was spot on

    Hello

DSO will be really good were you are nice dark skies , when your ready for a telescope try and find a shop so you can see how big the telescope is in the real world , there is nothing worse buying a telescope and find it's hard to set up because of its size and hard to store away when your done When you know what you want do a shop around FLO are really good on prices they also have price match with super fast postage and top customer support
  22. I wish the council would do something about the flats behind me I can't see the planets , knocking them down would be great I am glad you got your problem sorted just shows you they sometimes do listen
