  1. Hello everyone, I'm trying to get to grips with guiding in PHD2. This is the second time that I've used it and I'm trying to understand what my Guide Log is showing me. I have a total RMS error of 4.96" and I'm keen to understand more about where this may be coming from. In particular, I wondered if the log can indicate issues with balance? Hopefully I have successfully attached the my Guide Log below, I ran the Guide Assistant for 10 minutes during this session then applied the recommendations which PHD2 made. I am using an HEQ5 with belt modification. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time! https://openphdguiding.org/logs/dl/PHD2_logs_KKUp.zip
  2. Wow I can see why people are keen to mod or save for an astro cam. My DSLR is my only camera and I want to be able to use it in daytime too so think it'll be something else to save for 🤣 thanks for your insight 😁
  3. Hello, Bit of a newbie musing. I have a Canon 1200D and was wondering about the IR filter. My understanding is that the filter blocks much of the light at the deep red end of the spectrum. What I don't understand is why long exposures would be recommended to gather this data if the light is blocked. Is it that the filter doesn't fully block this light? My thinking is that if some of this light does get through the IR filter and you exposed for long enough to gather it then there would be an adverse impact on the other pixels becoming overly saturated. It made me wonder whether in general people get the results they want long term with unmodified DSLRs or is it the dream to either have the camera modified or buy a dedicated aatro camera? Thanks Claire ☺️
  4. Thanks for that ☺ I hadnt looked at the Esprit but I'll definitely go and have a look and compare. I think I'm coming to the conclusion myself to start tracked but unguided and, as you say, add autoguiding on once I've found my feet. Hoping that I could still achieve some decent results without autoguiding if my polar alignment is good 🤞
  5. Hello All, I'm fairly new to this hobby, been taking tentative steps over the past year but really enjoying it and want to make some more serious attempts at astrophotography. I have the HEQ5 mount and Canon 1200D and my interest is in deep sky imaging. I've been saving up to buy my first telescope and I'm leaning towards the Sky-Watcher 80ED. My question is around not so much around which scope to buy but which add ons are required to get started and which are nice to haves. I hear alot of talk on guiding but I'm not clear on whether this is essential to get started using the scope amd getting some decent results or whether this is something I would add on at a later date? If so how do I go about picking something that would work best with 80ED. Same question applies for reducer/flattener - is this something I should be investing in as soon as I buy the scope or is it not essential? Thanks for your time and help,. Claire 🌙⭐
  6. This sounds brilliant, looking forward to it ☺
