  12. should i use 18 or 12mm ply for the UTA on my homemade DOB?

      12mm should be sufficient tbh it seems strong enough on the climbing wall i go to so should be ok on your scope.if you need extra stiffness just reinforce it in the necessary areas rather than bulk up the whole thing

      i have ordered a sheet of 18mm far eastern ply seems to have a nice finish,i cant see two 18"circles weighing to much :)

      as said, 18mm is enough for a climbing wall, 12 flexes a bit under bodyweight but it should be fine for a dob :)

      lol no me and my mate are nearly there with out 16" F4.5 mirror :) rang orion optics today about coating it as there only about 25 min drive away. now we can start making plans for the design

      well the bad news is it looks like telescope house have sold out of the LB16" so maybe a SW 14 inch Flexi have to wait till monday if i can get it
