We have had a very unusual mild winter too. Mostly +5-10c. But for some reason, it snowed heavily last night. 😅😂 -

Filter distance to sensor. Does it really matter?
Rocket Stars replied to Rocket Stars's topic in Discussions - Cameras
Wow vlaiv!! You are big, big book of knowledge! I do really appriciate your very, very good explaination! Halos, was the first thing on my mind. Are still setting up a hyperstar with filter holder. And I read a pdf on Baader´s sit about halo effects from filters. That made me wonder if I should set the filterholer as close as possible to the sensor. Or as far as possible. Now, there is less than 20mm difference of the options. Thank you so much for your time and effort, with diagrams and all! -

I think I have it sorted. (prayers). With adapters and chims on order. Im within 0.2 mm of required back focus. Since Hyperstar is sensitive, I hope im close enough to get good focus to be able to colimate the lens. Plan is to get the set up working, "play" little with it. Then decide on a cooled camera. When I got this with the scope a while back. I emailed with Dean regarding camera choice. I have to agree to Starizona´s very good customer support! Bought their fethertouch autofucuser. Just the focus knob is super quality. Way back in the almost black and white years, I was a toolmaker. Just love the quality and feeling of the mechanics of it. yum!

Hi all! At the moment, im getting a headache.. I have been in trouble to get backfocus and collimation ok. I have a Baader 1,25 eyepiece holder and a adapters, fitted to the Hyperstar. But not getting it right. So I decided to order a proper filter drawer and spacers. Interestingly, I have had a hard time to find cs/T2 adapter, and a filter drawer that matches the back focus required. After "some" digging. I decided to measure the camera housing. And..It differs considerably to the original specs I got with the camera. I might be stupid, and missiunderstand something? Anyway, I submit a pdf "quick drawing". My measurements is on about 0.1mm. I didn't bother to go to the granit flatsurface measuring stuff.. Am I missing out on something? I need to order the parts, so I can go imaging in the near future..please.. Obsy building started ! (and now complete!)

You should be proud of your exellent work! 👌👏👍 -
Good info, Thank you. I vill certenly check If a dualband will work with hyperstar. Since you cant have a filterwheel with that set up. Makes such filter Intresting. Plan is however to get a cooled mono CAM in the near future. Sound like astrodon is a long term goal. But astronomin, baader ect. Will be a very good start.

Im getting a filter drawer, and a better adapter setup for my hyperstar setup. Currently Im dabbing with a altair GPCAM 3 178c. But hoping to upgrade to 183 mono in near future. First, Im looking what size to get. Should one go for 2” to be future prof? Seems sensors are getting bigger at more ”afforable” prizes. Also in the future, i will get a filterwheel and a reducer for my edge 8. Baader has a special set for Highspeed optics. So Im wondering if multiband filters will work with my 178color camera? Or any other ”normal” filters? In essential, what is the difference? Alot broader filterqueation. What is the difference in quality between the brands? Astrodon seems to be the best of the best. To pricy for me. But why are they better? I can pay for good equipment. But I like to know why and what Im spending money on.

Today I treated my self (or the scope), with a polmaster. After som thinking about other options. Plate solving, polar alignment in SharpCap. Standing on my knee´s in the coming winters snow, bumping my head at the adjustscrews on the AVX mount. Freezing.. Decision was made. The scope needed a polmaster. So the crappy user (me) could make sure that we at least, have a good alignment in the direction Santa lives. ( roumours saying, santa is gearing up astrogear production this season)

Tack WIM! Had a former colleague in the 90´s. Who was a member of a band with that name. Lets see if I will be able to shoot some pictures in the near future. Need to adjust the set up, a bit more.

Thank you! Add to living in a very light polluted area. South, I can see a "nice" lightpollution aurora from the city. About 45 degrees up from the horizon. Had a few clear nights vid good seeing last week. But, was of coarse working..

Where do you keep your Scope ? ?
Rocket Stars replied to Neiman's topic in Getting Started Equipment Help and Advice
I keep my at the office. And have to carry the "thing" thru a cpl. of doors, out to the backyard. The "thing" is heavy, tripod catches on the doorframes ect. Im looking at a better solution in the future. -
Thank you 🙏 all for the warm welcomes! I found this forum very nice, and more relaxed than.. Oh well, it’s not a competition. But it is the members in forums, who makes a forum successful. 👌

Sorry for late reply. Working most of my time being aware at the moment. Missed 2 exeptional Nights. But, i couldn get focus in the diagonal. And dosent have the adapters to fit it in the rear. So I mounted the hyperstar and the camera. Was close to perfect backfocus. Have a few testators. But the hyperstar needs collimation adjustments. Hopefully, maby tonight I can try some more.

My very old PC laptop Im trying now ( found it in the attic) is very old. A rp4 would be sweet as hony. But I just found out about N.I.N.A. And really like the workflow and layout. Best of all worlds. Would be something that work at home and dark sites. As a newbie, there is alot to invest in. But some computer at the mount, seems to be a better solution.

Experiences with belted on a AVX?
Rocket Stars replied to Rocket Stars's topic in Discussions - Mounts
Ty for your reply! Im planing to inspect the wormgear drive. And If possible to matchlap the wormgear assy. I think you are probably right. A good Adjustment of the drivegear is probably a good start. -
Hii. I was thinking about doing the belted on my AVX. Im planning to disassemble it and give it a good service. If there is good experiences with this mod? Im inclined to do it when I have it in bits. Cheers!
