  1. Hi everyone, I'm trying to figure out the cause of these weird star shapes I'm getting with my 130pds. I had them before, but someone narrowed it down to being pinched optics. So I loosened the primary retention clips, which seemed to fix the problem. Now that I've been able to get back out for another night of imaging, they seem to be back again! I made sure that the primary retention clips are still loose - should they be touching the mirror or not? I've also made sure that the primary collimation locking screws aren't done up too tight as well. Collimation through my cheshire looks to be spot on to me. Here's my image of Andromeda with the odd stars in question:
  2. 3 Hours of data on Andromeda with the 600D from last night. I noticed that I seem to have them oddly shaped stars again. Last time, I fixed this by undoing the primary mirror retention clips a bit as they were tight up against the mirror. Now that i've been able to get back out for a night of imaging, they're back again! Any ideas as to why this could be ? I double checked the clips again and they're still loose, although they are still touching the mirror, are they supposed to touch it or not? I also made sure that the primary collimation locking screws aren't overly tightened. Also, through my cheshire, collimation looks to be spot on.
  3. Update: Luckily enough, the sky was clear tonight, although the seeing was horrible, I managed to test out the star field. All I can say is thank you to Matt, problem is resolved 🙂.
  4. Damn, I see what you mean about them being tight! I found a helpful video from Garnett Leary, so thank you for pointing me in what's hopefully the right direction. I'll be sure to post an update, probably won't be for a while at this rate with the weather being like it is. Cheers, James.
  5. Oh right, that does make sense. Thank you. I just borrowed my Grandad's tap and die set, or you could purchase one from B&Q etc. for a couple quid. I can't remember exactly what size the thumb screw is, but i'm sure someone else on here will.
  6. Hmm. Perhaps it could be. I'll have to take a look. Yes, I added a third thumbscrew to the focusser - don't know what I was thinking when I said accessory holder, lol. Cheers, James.
  7. Hi, Firstly I just wanted to say how incredible the images being produced here are, so much so that like most others, I bought this scope! Now I have no idea if I should be posting this here or not, but I finally managed to get my first image using the 130pds and my new guiding setup. But i've noticed, there still seems to be small amounts of coma in the corners of the image, yet I have the SW corrector. I tapped an extra hole into the accessory holder, to prevent any tilt which seemed to work great. I am using a canon 600D dslr, so the aps-c sized sensor shouldn't be a problem for the SW corrector, should it? I've made sure to get collimation just right, or I believe it is anyway - i'll attatch an image of the star test. Cheers, James.
