  1. Yes i wondered about blue. Rose tinted would be better. I started with a little monocular spent ages looking ar the moon through them. I think i will get one just for a kick around. Probably ok for bird spotting. πŸ€“
  2. Aldi doing spotting scope and tripod for Β£25. No good for serious gazers but as a starter pretty good.
  3. Spent morning working out what i need for trip and weighing it. Stripped down to basics. And will split between hand and hold luggage. Total weight allowance is 33kg and this lot cam to 16kg. So about half. set up should give chance to photograph stuff day and night and stargaze with scope up to around 60x. I can also use scope as spotting scope for day time.
  4. Thanks for all that i have booked an island tour for the day time and an astro tour for the night time. we are staying at Fuencaliente which is on the south / south west the hotel is away from the beach and is up hill from the coast about 2.5 km or 25/30 minutes walk. From what i can make out from details given not to built up and it has walks to nature sites. I believe it is surrounded by banana plantations. first trip and holiday with some stargazing to test it out really. Might hire car for a day or two ,take it roads are fairly quiet plan though is to spend evenings finding area around hotel which are quiet and as dark as possible. If this trip is successful will look to a more secluded spot later appreciate the mountain areas are cold and have appropriate clothing πŸ‘
  5. Posted about this on my trip to la palma nut thought may be of interest to other travellers website lets you put your latitude in and you get a printable planisphere easy to make. πŸ‘
  6. Needed a Planisphere for 28degrees north to cover la palma. No luck online till i found a download. You put in the latitude you need 5 degree increments and print off and assemble. Pretty good
  7. Hi i have a canon 1200d should i get reasonable shots of the milky way with a 18-55 lens. Heading to la palma this January so would like to take some landscapes at night. Its 18mp and has iso up to 6400 though i believe 12800 is possible the lowest aperture is f3.6 any tips. Will be taking small scope so will piggy back on tripod. Cheers
  8. I like the idea of imaging but cant really justify the expense. I like sketching as it seems for me to help reinforce in my memory what i have seen. I get a feeling of awe looking at something new i have found using charts compass and frustration even if it is a faint smudge. I like the panorama shots ie milky way over landscape as i like the whole landscape photography thing. If i want a picture of a nebula etc i am happy to look at a hubble shot and use my minds eye to over lay on what i an seeing in the scope itself. Sometimes the equipment and new toys mean more than the subject itself i have found this with the other hobbies i pursue. I have a nice guitar but got tired of the competition at my local folk club over who had the most expensive one etc as if it made anyone a better player! I like observing as i am learning new stuff all the time. For me anyway it is about stargazing and understanding what i am seeing than how good my photograph is, or how big a lens I have. i hope observing doesn't die out, amd especially sketching. I am getting better at sketching but still admire many of the pieces of art i have seen on this site
  9. Got organising for my new year trip compacting my case so i can fit all i need. Used foam card to create spaces for bits and pinch some wadding from my wifes sewing stuff to cushion the scope. The case fits in small photograph rucksack and there is room for the other things like ipad and camera etc that will go on board as hand luggage. Just need to modify suitcase now to hold tripod and mount securely. Holding off to see if prices drop a bit for holiday but will post when i know exactly where we are going in la Palma πŸ‘
  10. Hi i made a projector using an old telephoto lens. Works well. To the back of the lens i added a extension tube so i can use lenses of different size. I placed the projection screen 12 inches from lens. With a 25 mm lens i get a disc of 2 inch diameter with a 10 mm i get a 5 inch disc. The apeture doesnt effect size it just brightens or darkens image hope this helpsπŸ‘
  11. Yes i agree. Auto paint. I have restorted a few motirbike if you mask out ( very well and take time) you could use a light emery paper to blend in paint that is still adhered then prime and respray. You can age nee as well by using a etch coat for a couple of minutes then sponge off. That way it looks vintage.
  12. Yes i found that tonight. Took some tests of cygnus. 30 second got trails small but annoying. Thanks for advice πŸ‘

  14. Thats really good i like them. I too have old canon and will be giving it a go just need a wedge for my mount. Keep it up πŸ‘
  15. Andromeda galaxy looked quite bright past couple of nights
  16. Update managed to just make out ring nebula with 9.5 lens. Sky was quite clear but still light poluted. Think it would be quite noticable if dark sky. Magnification was around 45x i think love this little fella
  17. Like to be as compact as i can ride a motorbike so need to get everything in panniers etc also handy when travelling. πŸ˜€
