  1. Hi Mark,

I’m about to pull the trigger on a home observatory with HO-UK. Your video was very helpful. I assume one year in you are happy with your kit?

What was the overall size of yours? I’m looking at a 13x9 with a warm room (I think just 1 foot narrower that’s yours).

Many thanks for any feedback you can provide.

      Hi Simon

      Sorry for my slow reply.

Thanks for your message and yes I’m happy with mine. It’s still going strong and now I’ve fitted out the warm room and obsy itself I couldn’t be happier.

I only have 1 concern in that the mount vibrates when I’m moving around inside the obsy. I have learned to keep still when lunar and planetary imaging. Do ask them to check if they’re doing your pier or plinth.

I went as big as I could get away with but I can’t remember off top of my head and it’s just about to rain so I won’t measure. Whatever space you have soon fills up.

I thought UKHO had stopped trading. I’m glad to hear they’re still going. Please pass on my regards when you next see them.

Min the meantime I wish you good luck.

Let us know how you get on!

      Mark

  2. Jeremy,

Sorry to bother you.  I noticed from a photo you posted you have a Celestron 9.25 with a refractor piggybacked on it.  I have an 1100 and I am looking at a Williams optics 73 zenithstar APO. This is new to me and a I am unsure of the mounting approach. The APO has a vixen style mount. May I ask how you mounted your refractor on your OTA? I am sure it’s really simple and I apologise for the simple question.

      Hello Simon,

It's actually a C11 in the pic (I do have a C9.25, which I referred to in my post, but that is not shown).

I installed an ADM Losmandy D dovetail plate to the top of the C11 OTA. On this is fitted a ADM D Series Dovetail Plate Adapter

The small refractor is a Takahashi FS60C which has a Tak tube cradle. The bottom of the cradle as a 3/8-inch photo tripod screw hole. I use a screw into that from the dovetail plate adapter. I suspect your WO scope might have a similar hole in it's base, if you look on the bottom of the Vixen dovetail.

There is one disadvantage to my arrangement: it's difficult to precisely align the Tak scope with the C11. This is not a problem for me as I'm not actually using it as a guide scope, but as a wide-field imaging scope. If I needed to be able to adjust the Tak, I'd use ADM tube rings to mount it.

      Hope this helps,

      Jeremy
