  1. I have the latest INdI compiled from git hub, working perfectly on rpi4 with no issues at all, plus all 3rd party drivers and GSC, plus full Kstars / Ekos too, all on raspbian buster... The one thing you really need to watch with this new rpi4 is the heat produced during compiling, it tends to overheat and throttle back, this then means it takes a long while to compile and had errors, mine would not work at all i it’s case with no fan, but just a heatsink, I had to remove from case and run a desktop fan over the top of it, it then compiles very quickly and worked without errors, then back in the case to use Kstars seems fine...they do get really really really hot, I have a metal case for mine, and I could barely pick it up.. 😮
  2. Nice one, I too have full INdI, with GSC fully working on rpi4 but did it all from git which seems a tad easier than your method, also I have full Kstars / Ekos up and running too on raspbian buster, also works well..
  3. Thanks for that... so not a spring loaded worm then..? Just new bearings and well tuned..and maybe new worm..?
  4. Have you got any pictures of the mounts after the mod.. ? I would like to see how it looks.. and what exactly does the mod involve.. to eliminate the issues that comes with these mounts... i Just got hold of a secondhand d EQ8 for a very very good price, under £1200 and it’s mint (well after swapping all the bolts for stainless steel ones anyway) and one of the later ones it’s 3 years old..
  5. Yes, I think the way forward for me ATM with the rpi4, is just to have INdI installed and use Kstars on LP Kubuntu laptop, I have got it all installed on the rpi4 now, but there are issues with Kstars, and Jasem does not seem keen to help getting it to work on Raspbian, I have asked him a few times..he does not like the lack of PPA on raspbian...so I won’t hold my breath with that one as you say..
  6. Check out this thread, last post, and you will see that there is not much that Wimpress guy can do to move forward..... ☹️ https://ubuntu-mate.community/t/support-for-raspberry-pi-4/19757
  7. I have got INdI and Kstars on the rpi4 compiled from Source..on raspbian buster, but Kstars has some errors, not sure what yet.. 🤔
  8. Webpage for libastro not working, it goes to an SGL Page..
  9. I installed the full set of 3rd party drivers, and seem to work ok, the ones I tried anyway, EQMOD and SX CCD... Had a few issues with INdI WebManager as I could not get permission to copy files on the rpi desktop, so had to resort to the terminal.. 😮
  10. Well I Have the latest INdI and Kstars up and running on the rpi4 under the new raspbian buster, had to compile myself, but working ok, and very fast, have yet to try in anger with kit connected, but looking good.... am very pleased with myself as never compiled from git hub before.. 😀😀
  11. Yes, i need a new power supply, as the raspberry one I had at 2.5amp will not run it, I knew it required 3 amp, but stupidly thought with nothing attached it may work for testing purposes, but alas it was not to be.. (
  12. Well FYI, the new rpi4 will not work with Kstars very easily until there is ubuntu support, it can be done but not for the faint hearted and Linux noobs like me...so still using the rpi3b+ for now..
  13. PhD will run on the rpi yes, but has to be started first in sever mode, then controlled from within Kstars, if you run Kstars then there is no need to anything else....IMO, but Apt will not work with INdI, not sure about SGP...
  14. I use an rpi3b+ for my full imaging set up, it does it all, I use the Stellarmate OS and use it as a sever on my mount, all kit connected to it, and Kstars runs on a pc indoors and connects wirelessly to the rpi for full controll of equipment, very stable and non of the inherent USB and COM issues that you get with Ascom....it just seems to work, and one pieces of software, namely Kstars that does the lot.. You can run Kstars on a windows PC, there is a windows version, it’s just INdI that has to be Linux or Mac...so using the rpi and an INdI server and Kstars on a windows PC is a good choice for you.. HTH...
  15. Rpi4 4gb version back in stock at the PI hut....get In fast...
  16. Why not there are thousands on eBay, I ordered one for £1.99 the processor is same size as the rpi3b so same heatsink...and because they have now split the USB and Ethernet chips, not needed on there now....
  17. I use Starlight Xpress Cameras, I have a SXVR M25c OSC and an SXVR H18 (KAF8300 sensor) mono...with Lodestar guide cam...so no region of interest needed, as I am just deep sky... Wanted the rpi 4 for other reasons than the USB 3...
  18. Yes i have tried it, and works well, but I don’t like the indigosky GUI, it works well, but is very clunky and long winded..but just my opinion, when the new indigo control panel is released that will be much better...
  19. How do I know this, because I have been using INdI for 18 months with Stellarmate, on the rpi3b+ and it’s superb in my opinion, it just works and never suffers from the same issues I had with Ascom.. also no USB issues, or COM port problems, what can I say, for me it’s been a godsend to get away from windows.. Indigo is just a slightly updates version of INdI, but really the same thing for the end user...slightly better coded, apparently, I have used a few indigo drivers with Stellarmate as they are interchangeable...
  20. So your just going to need indigo in the rpi, so that should work ok, as a lot of us need to wait for Ubuntu to work with it...let us know how you get on..
  21. You don’t need to run windows on the rpi, as you use APT, just run that on windows and then indigosky on the rpi as the driver server, it sits on the mount and all kit is connected to it, and then it’s acts as the replacement for Ascom, and is much better, APT was recently upgraded to work with INdI and indigo for this exact reason... Do a search for APT and indigosky...
  22. Probably nothing and easy for you guys in the know.... for me to sort that out would be a little more difficult, I want, or should I say need ease..as I am a Linux dummy
  23. Yes there is another thread started about this two days ago, I ordered one then and it came yesterday, and all sold out within hours, but it’s going to be a while before it’s much use to anyone using Kstars, as it does not work at all with Ubuntu yet, so until it has their support the latest Kstars has no chance... so there is really no real rush to buy...not sure why I did to be honest... Been using the rpi3b+ with Kstars / Stellarmate for a while now and it’s superb, would not use anything else...I have it mounted on the mount, and control from PC indoors...
  24. Yes and me, the issue is with the new rpi4, the connectors are hdmi micro connectors, and I have none of those cables...I have standard and mini, but not micro...
  25. This is on my list to try with mine while I wait, I wanted to try and install a newer version, but I guess beggars can’t be choosers...
