  1. Hi, Paul! I maintain a database of stargazing events including star parties and star camps on my Go Stargazing website. https://gostargazing.co.uk/events-map/ for public stargazing events in the coming thirty days, with option to see all future events https://gostargazing.co.uk/go-starcamping/ for a list of future star camps Clear skies! Neill
  2. I think the Green Space Dark Skies project is a fantastic idea. It will help and encourage people who have not experienced dark skies before to get out of the towns and cities and see what they are missing - for me there's no better way to educate people on the affects of light pollution. The project leaders have sought the advice of the International Dark Sky Association UK representative Duncan Wise (who was responsible for Northumberland's Dark Sky Park status). Having spoken to them myself at length, this project is well meaning and will have a positive influence on people. As such, I will be supporting this project through my Go Stargazing website.
  3. The new observatory and visitor centre looks absolutely fantastic and we're really pleased to hear of the official recognition of dark sky park status from the IDA. Our congratulations to everyone involved! Clear skies!

  6. Just a quick shout out to say thank you to all of you who have participated in my survey, and also to FLO for their support. If you haven't already done so there's still plenty of time as the prize draw takes place on the Summer Solstice. Clear skies!
  7. Hi! My name is Neill and I help run the gostargazing.co.uk website. We feature stargazing events and locations across the UK and have been keen supporters of grassroots astronomy for several years. If you are a member of a club or society that hosts outreach events it's likely that some of your guests and new members will have found your group via our website. We believe that astronomy can play an important part helping society recover from the virus pandemic. Many businesses such as tourist destinations and accommodation providers are set to lose a whole Summer season due to the lockdown. We of course don’t know how things will turn out, however, when the nights start getting longer it could be the time when people are once again allowed to venture out. If so then we are all too happy to encourage public interest in the night skies whilst at the same time supporting local businesses. Our aim is to connect locations who want to promote themselves as stargazing destinations with people who can help them do so. The support and involvement of the astronomy community is therefore crucial to our plans. If you’re interested in getting involved I’d like to invite you to participate in our online survey at gostargazing.co.uk/survey which also features a prize draw to win a refracting telescope, home planetarium and other great prizes. Thank you for your time. We wish you good health and clear skies!
  8. I'm pleased to confirm that Go Stargazing will be exhibiting at this year's Practical Astronomy Show 2020 -- if you are going too please do stop by and say Hi!

  11. July 20th 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing and it's likely that many of us in Stargazers Lounge will be hosting or helping with public events celebrating arguably humankind's greatest achievement. If you are organising an event (or know someone that is) I would like to invite you to let me know so that I can add it to the https://gostargazing.co.uk/apollo50 website. Simply contact me with the website address detailing your event and I will happily add it to our events database. Event details will also be shared with the IAU so to list them on https://www.moonlanding50.org and I am also anticipate working with the BBC once again as part of their Stargazing Live TV show. Clear skies! Neill
