  1. I use a concentre (concenter - US) for the secondary. Once you have the secondary in the right position, you don't need to adjust it again. So I suppose value for money is low, but I found mine invaluable. I have a guide for laser collimation here: I do my 12" in the dark and it takes seconds. Plus with a laser you have the advantage of adjusting the primary from a distance.
  2. I don't know why you are looking there. Vulcan is the second planet orbiting what you Humans call 40 Eridani. If Vulcan is too warm for you, try the fourth planet, Tel-Alep (what Humans call Delta Vega - no idea why). I hear the skiing is great at the moment 🤣
  3. Got it a few nights ago. I had to drive 15 mins out west to higher ground. Too many houses here. I saw it first with the 12x36is bins around 19:00, then naked eye about 19:20. I wish I'd taken a scope with me.

    Hi everyone!!!

Hi Panos, welcome to SGL I was in Athens for four days just over a year ago. Lovely historical sites there.
  5. With the DC you can remove the green spacer to get more in focus. My FC100 fitted with an FT needs an 80mm extension tube (I use the Tak that came with it), so there's never going to be a problem with in focus, even with a 2" wedge - I can just swap the 80mm for a smaller one if needed. I use my 120mm achro with the Baader Coolwedge though, and the Svbony definitely won't focus with that combination. My other eyepieces leave 8-10mm of in focus and I'm guessing the Svbony would need at least another 5mm.
  6. Well done on reaching 5000, and top quality posts too 👍
  7. We'll find out later 👍
  8. Can't wait for this to come round tonight.
  9. The heaviest part is usually the base. Tubes are more bulky than heavy. I did have a Flextube 250 which was easier to manoeuvre. The base had more handles than the StellaLyra (though you could fix that) and the tube can be picked up by the struts with one hand.
  10. Ties won't work on my 12". I'm thinking either drilling the Telrad and tube, or fitting another finder shoe and using my Baader which is a lot smaller.
  11. I have a Telrad on my 12". It keeps falling off. I've tried new sticky things, glue, even Velcro (which worked but was wobbly). Short of drilling it and putting bolts through, I can't think of a solution. Any ideas?
  12. Interestingly, despite having a slipped disc, I can move my 12" from the shed to the patio without too much difficulty.
  13. Great session. My Svbony requires a lot more in focus than my other eyepieces. The Tak needs an 80mm extension tube to focus so that's not a problem and it focuses just fine with that in place. I can't use it in the 120mm with the Baader Coolwedge, though it's ok with the 2" Baader Dielectric.

Very nicely captured. It is a lovely sight in any size scope.
  15. I had a few glimpses tonight but Sirius itself was a bit unstable.
  16. It's really good for doubles. Perfect airy disks in the Tak at x247 and 3mm. It takes me from x93 up to x247 and means I don't need as many eyepieces. Just a finder (42mm), closer finder (17mm), then this. Shame it's not par focal with anything. It has a lot more in focus than any of my eyepieces.
  17. Come in now. It's a bit hazy.
  18. I should qualify that a little. While looking at Tegmine I put the Svbony in the x2.5 Powermate with the Tak. It help up well at 4mm - x463... still sharp airy discs. The 120mm is still good at 4mm, x250, but at 3mm, x333 it's pants
  19. Just been looking at Tegmine. With the 100mm I can see two clear, but joined discs. I put the 120mm achro on and that splits them at x250 - I can see a fine line of dark between them. That old Helios is quite good on doubles, I don't see much CA at all.
  20. I've been on this just now. With the 100mm I can see two clear, but joined discs. I put the 120mm achro on and that splits them at x250 - I can see a fine line of dark between them. That old Helios is quite good on doubles, I don't see much CA at all.
  21. It made the BBC... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/world-europe-68693519
  22. Just having a coffee break from my doubles session on the Gemini / Cancer border. My back is aching a bit and I don't want to push it. I'm changing the eyepieces I use for doubles. The Svbony 3-8 is outstanding. It takes me all the way from x93 to x247. Shame it's not par focal with any other eyepieces though.
  23. I've just been for a short drive west. It's 250m higher than here and has a clear horizon - I have houses. Got a real good look at Mercury with the 12x36is bins. I wish I'd taken a scope with me. Got back, put the Tak out. Had a look at Jupiter. It's just a bit fuzzy at x185, probably because it's so low above the houses. I think that might be my last view for this season. Same for Sirius. It was dancing around a bit at x185 but I caught a couple of glimpses of the pup.
