I have noticed that the more experienced the observer the lower the magnification they seem to use.
I'd like to think after 50 years observing I qualify for that!
I have found that the best compromise between detail and contrast comes at x1 per mm. Anything above that is 'empty' magnification, so, larger image but no more detail. So, in my C9.25, x235 is ideal. It also fits in with UK observing conditions which rarely offer seeing good enough for higher powers regardless of scope size. Small and sharp is better than big and blurred
I do occasionally view the moon at x294, and double stars at x392, but they are exceptions. -

Oh, and the one thing that catches everyone out setting up one of these things (including me) is the back to front (US style) date...

I've only ever seen Castor as white and white.

I'm slightly blue right, red left.
I observe with my left so have a high red bias - very noticeable in my variable star observing days. I always see red stars brighter than they are.

Yes, 'brakes' off to move the scope freely, brakes on to use the drive. Once you have the scope aligned to north keep the brakes on and use the controller to do the final alignment, slewing and tracking..

Many (quite a lot) years ago I had a 60mm f15 refractor. That scope was particularly good at splitting doubles. I imagine the 72ED to be much better quality and could manage them quite easily.
I have an 80ED but have never tried high power on it...

I assume you guys have read the rules?
Don't be upset when posts start vanishing.
It's already happened - several posts removed. There are one or two others remaining which are borderline.
Please re read the CoC. No religion - couldn't be clearer!
