  1. Superb data as always. Pleasure to have a go at processing it specially after 6 weeks of cloud. Processed in photoshop as HSO palette.
  2. Zoom lens at 200 or 250mm or so, at 350mm you might get star trails without the guiding, with the crop factor you should get a nice full image in your field of view. Keep a eye on your focus too. That said have a go at the Milky Way early evening with your 12mm
  3. M45 The Pleiades, easy to see and frame in the view finder, 60 second subs so no guiding required. Lovely blue grey nebulae in front of the cluster. Nice object to practice your processing on too. Hope you have the weather for it👍
  4. Sorry guys I stripped my rig down a few weeks back to add a EAF and spacers for my back focus. Not seen the stars since. Nice image thou
  5. You keep producing these fantastic images Göran, Makes me want to part with some cash and buy a RASA. Looking at your kit list thou, is it your preferred imaging setup?
  6. I bought a dimmable one for about £18 pound works ok, I suppose it’s about build quality and size, just make sure the light panel covers your scopes aperture. E2a what he says👆

    Back for good

Well then a 6 month belated welcome back..................for good. Not sure if i have the Bee Gees or Take That in my head now.
  8. 2nd and final attempt, same workflow as before except no star reduction and HOO palette instead Thanks Andy
  9. Great picture, I like it very much. Very easy to loose yourself in the detail when zoomed in. 10 hours well spent👍 Thanks for sharing
  10. Well I don't think I've had as sweaty palms as I had when I first looked at the Data after stretching the images, thank you SGL/FLO for sharing. lovely data. I stuck with the SHO Hubble palette and approached the processing with little idea as to how i was going process it in Photoshop, still learning the dark art, and to be truthful I still dont. I think it was along the lines of:- After initial stretch and combine colour channels Masked out the Nebula from background (Object selection tool tidied up with lasso tool) and selective colour on background. Inverted mask and selective colour on Nebula Kept the same mask and performed dust and scratches on background blended the Nebula edges in with blur tool Used Ha copy and pasted as luminance layer on top reduced opacity a couple of curve adjustments and star reduction in there somewhere., blurred the stars on the Nebula with a small diameter blur tool. and I think thats about it, Bit of noise reduction ah and a Hipass sharpen, layer set to overlay 25% opacity. I shall do a more orthodox image maybe, Thanks Andy
  11. I had plans for a few locations up in the hills back in spring while the Milky Way was low in the sky but the lockdown put those on ice til next year, saying that the weather has not been good either. Maybe I’ll stay local and get a few winter constellations and sheep lol. Thanks Andy
  12. It’s more a case of whether your guiding setup is suitable for your imaging setup. In most cases this is a good guide camera/scope set up. You can check your imaging setup against guiding by going to Astronomy tools (in the drop down menu) and scroll down finding the guiding suitability calculator. I’ve use mine on focal lengths from 250mm upto 1500mm.
  13. Well I made good use the clear skies and new moon last week with some RGB & Ha imaging and found these two targets on Stellarium. First composite image by this method and pleased with the outcome after 3 different renditions throughout the day. Still figuring out the exposure length, gain, offset ADU with ASi1600 certainly different from shooting a DSLR. 50X120sec R,G & B subs and 50x300sec subs (additional 15x240 sec luminosity subs not used) processed in Photoshop. Imaged with Whitecat51, ASI1600mm pro and Heq5 pro mount guided with PHD2/APT. Andy
  14. I've recently splashed out on a second hand Sigma 24mm lens F1.4. Its a lens I've wanted for a while but hadn't seen any decent 2nd hand examples until a couple of weeks ago. I had only used it during the day as I've been busy with DSO imaging this week. Anyhow I had a crack at light painted foreground image stack with the Milky Way. It wasn't quite astro dark (about 40 mins before) but I had a go with it anyhow and I'm as pleased with its performance during the night as I am for day use. Its a shame I couldn't get the Milky Way to pop but maybe next time. Background 8 x 8 second subs @ F1.8 iso2500 stacked in Sequator. Foreground light painted 5 x 5 second subs @ F3.5 iso800 stacked and blended with the background in Photoshop. Thanks for looking.
  15. Nice and sturdy mount, very nice setup too
  16. Can I ask what tripod your using? I was using the cheapish plastic skywatcher mount and found nipping up Allen bolts at the top where the legs join the base helped too
  17. There’s a similar issue on the Zwo asiair Facebook page which basically blames it on poor polar alignment, not sure if you’re a fb user, I’m not, I just borrow someone’s tablet to have a look now and again. The thing I found with the star adventurer is it is prone to losing pa after you’ve positioned the scope on target just from the movement. I upgraded the wedge and it helped keep pa. that said I’ve had the Asiair now for 6 months and I’ve used it twice so I’m not an expert. it was bought for a portable setup to take to the local dark sites but lockdown put and end to that, and well I can’t seem to tear my self away from APT and the laptop at the mo
  18. Had a text from a mate at 4am this morning saying the moon looked ‘wicked’, he’s not even into astronomy and usually cares not for the night sky. Fortunately I was just finishing up a imaging session and busy looking at M31/33/42/45 with the binoculars to of noticed. Grabbed the dslr and took a couple of snaps. First time I’ve been glad of a text at 4am.
  19. I’ve just acquired the 24mm sigma art lens on Tuesday. Had a quick dabble last night before the moon rose, alas fairly cloudy too. It wasn’t quite Astro dark either and yes I have to say what a lens. Can’t wait til a clear night and new moon. Next week is looking good Same camera as me too. Thanks for sharing
