  1. These sell under varied "names." I would like a better "DC ServoMotor (more torque) . I purchased mine without a motor and no idea on it's 4 wires specs. Not seeking to remake the controller (have too many projects now). Any idea on a similar/better "motor"? My controller was re-wired for an external power supply. Thanks, Nick/USA/Earth
  2. My Guess is pricing will be high for new technology! Otherwise why make it ??
  3. My 2 Cents (US). I would stick with White. I think there are "Pool Paints" that reflect IR waves. If I had an E-Type Jag, I'd go with BRG.
  4. Nice ideas. Thanks! Will try as a later project.
  5. Enjoy following this ! Wife "informed" me the 100RS will be too heavy for Tamara. Lucky found another Russian 4" (wish) Reflector in Garage to substitute once get a finder!
  6. Nice job! I have a 100RS going to my Granddaughter (1/2 Russian). She is TALL for her 12 years.
  7. Nice job ! Maybe I'll start on my 18" f/5 ?
  8. Good, these scopes are worth it ! I posted an image (took a while to find it) on 01-13-2021 under my Advert of TAL of Two Cities-2M Mount." I'm afraid my 73 year old brain did not recall how to attach it directly. I used my mini-lathe to modify the part slightly. I am in the States, but may have another part. I used a small fine toothed blade to cut the nylon bearing in two and pass fitted the bronze or maybe Brass one in place and used epoxy to hold it. You would need to carefully unscrew the motor from the gearbox.
  9. I re-built my TAL-2M Mount (used the members help here). The electrical part was easy. My "Power Box" was working, but I opened it up and just found a standard 12 volt transformer, fuse & switch. Well constructed, like the scope. i wonder why it came with a replacement UK Power Brick? Could you also have a damaged gearbox or worn front Nylon bearing? My gearbox was fine (I re-lubed it), but that Nylon bearing was gone and I machined a Bronze replacement bearing. The motor runs on little current.
  10. The controls are smooth, I just think the overall feel is off. Maybe me ? Have not yet used it. someday soon.
  11. Hoped to use my Celestron NexYZ just purchased but had to adapt for a iPhone 4s. Unit seems heavy and somewhat imprecise, but should clouds ever end I may get to use it and compare to yours!
  12. A Shot in the Dark! Still redoing my TAL 2M Mount & wonder how to remove that Big upper Bearing on DEC Shaft? Not much room. Should I try a Dremel cutoff wheel?

    Thanks, Starman18

Hi Starman, I sent you a pm

  13. I am thinking about adapting(if possible) either a toothed wheel/belt /Stepper or suitable gear /stepper to replace the DEC Tangent fine movement on my TAL-2M Project. Would like to do after replacing axis bearings. A Google search nets nothing. Anyone actually do this here? I also have a Vixen SP, but prefer the TAL due to mount capacity. I do not have a machine shop, just Basic Tools/Brains. Thanks
  14. Hi AndyH. I'm the amateur in US that redid a TAL2m Motor Bearing. Regarding shims for the DEC/RA axis issues, what size were the shims(IO/OD)? Did you Put a wheel/motorize the Dec axis? You posted Nov.2013. I also have a Vixen SP mount to motorize, but think the TAL could handle a heavier scope. What are your opinions?  Stay safe!  Nick

  15. Thanks Steve! It is more work than I wanted ! Thanks Mark, I had hoped my "work' was over (more projects to do), but I have now run into that "notch" problem too ! Give me a break ! While the drive wheel/worm combo feel just fine, I need to also fix these issues before selling it off. I originally bought the OTA & Mount for a scope for one of my two grandchildren (one has a Russian Father), I had a change in philosophy (?) as my other Grandchild (1/2 sister) I thought should also share in Astronomy, so I already have two Edmund Refractors I will provide upon my death (some years hence). Looks like I am rebuilding the TAL, but she deserves it.
  16. Ok, final part of the "story" all, USA Vendor for TAL states NO parts! NO exact match with US Motor makers. So decided, what the heck ! I took the gearbox off the motor and measured everything, including that darn nylon bearing for the output shaft (only). I found a bronze part somewhat similar in size and fired up my MiniLathe (still learning about it's features). I actually made this part into a bearing a little bit wider on the "outside" face and using screws in the 3 metal posts and epoxy glue, put it together. Just tried it, works great! What a relief ! I would not want to repeat that again, but does seem fine. It IS possible to do it yourself IF you have a lathe. Many thanks to all member support. Nice to have your help! Stay Safe.
  17. An update to all (again Thanks): I learned AWR no longer "fixes" these motors/Talteleoptics provided no response! TAL Yahoo Group(s) are Gone! Didn't locate TAL motor info yet on CN. Thanks markse68-info is good. will see once motor issue fixed. Hoped to not do a stepper system(have too many projects already). Have yet to open up the motor to look at bearing change. Have a small Lathe. Battle continues...
  18. 1. An Edit-rotation is .2RPM,Not Rom. Getting OLD 2. Emailed talteleoptics/AWR-thanks John/daveL59. Hope get some replies. 3.Removed motor & gear/clutch combo. Lots of shaft wiggle against nylon gear. Also takes 4-5 seconds for motor to actually rotate! 4. Seems like gear issue. OTA weighs a good 25 pounds (not currency). Ideas R26oldtimer? 5. If no replacement motors thinking a #17 Stepper/Driver solution. Looking for "KISS" first !
  19. Many Thanks John and DaveL59, will follow up. Plan on removing this motor soon, time will tell. Thanks Nick
  20. I have a 2M Mount & 100R Refractor. The RA Drive motor has (at least) worn bearings! The Prior owner mounted a HEAVY 6" Refractor on it. I think the Synchronous Motor is 12 volt AC, 60 Cycle, 0.2 ROM Clockwise Rotation. While the original Finder was replaced with a cheap Chinese model, I really am more concerned with getting a new motor. I am in the U.S. and thought I'd have no problem getting another similar motor or ordering a new usable motor from some Manufacturer. I understand TAL is out of Business. Well, like trying to view today's Conjunction (Clouds), not much luck ! Any suggestions Please? Thanks
