Earlier I saw a member say he thinks the term astronomer seems to imply some sort of intellectual or scientific endeavor. When I "gaze" into the heavens thru my telescope I'm doing it to enjoy the beauty above me and to increase my knowledge of the infinite universe. I guess that falls into both groups, scientific and intellectual. But deep down inside I still know I'm an amateur amateur!

The term Stargazer doesn't bother me either way. I don't hesitate to tell my friends that I am an amateur amateur astronomer compared to those on this forum who in my book are astronomers! Nerd, stargazer, astronomer, it doesn't matter. Wear your title proudly!

Might sound crazy, but a 1/2" thick piece of hardwood, tapered to fit the dovetail, then drill it for the mounting bolt. Easy to source the items and easy to cut with a router.

Only regret is not buying a 10" OTA instead of the 8". And it wouldn't have been much more!

I'm guessing, but I would say most likely yes. I only know him from his "post cards from the moon" posts which I enjoy very much. I have 4 of the prints coming.

This is one I've got coming.

First of all if the mods wish to delete this I understand. First, I'm just passing on the info. I've been following a man's posts on FB. He's been posting Lunar images and also information I've enjoyed. He gave me permission to post his name here and tell what he us offering. His name is Robert Reeves. He has come by original Lunar prints from the 60's that were thrown away after deciding they were taking up space and not needed. After going through them, sorting out into sets, he donated those to astronomy clubs. The left overs he is selling. He can send you files with thumbnails. I've decided on 4 from the far side. It's my understanding these are the original NASA prints from the 60's. The size is 20" x 24". If something he posted is true, he's got a good personal reason. But that I won't mention

Today is the anniversary of Apollo 1. How are we going to get o the moon, if we can't talk between to building? Tomorrow SWMBO's birthday, is Challenger's. Challenger, go for throttle up! Then February 1st is the one for Columbia! All separated by years, but in 6 days. It's so sad to be truthful, but we've only started. It will happen again.

Sometimes I leave an eyepiece, capped, in the focuser when parked. Then I put the covers on the ends of the scope and finder scope. Started viewing one night, got the moon in the finder, put my eye to the eyepiece and saw nothing! Finally I took out the eyepiece and laying just below it was a frog, completely blocking the view.

All the different opinions don't take in your neighbors gawd awful lights, so in my case it would immediately get brighter!

I was finally able to get out for about an hour, observing the Moon. With it having been a work day, I quickly ran out of gad and went to bed.

I wonder just how large it was. How small of an object can observatories image? For a small object to be imaged it must have been really close. At 10,000 mph the moon would be just a day away!

Excellent images. The AR about 10 o'clock I couldn't see this morning, but could the others.

El Nino has been bringing rain and clouds constantly. This morning was the first time I could even see the sun on a day off. I did manage a half hour to look at the activity on Sol. Now the Moon and Jupiter are directly overhead and the sky is covered with high clouds to thick to view thru. Only good thing is it's in the 60's F.

Is the area of Mexico more favorable for clear skies? Not that I could go there, but I'm concerned everywhere I look in the States that time of the year. Right now my plan is lower Missouri. It would be a 900 mile drive, which is the closest distance.
