Thanks for the heads up. I had heard it would be close. Now if the weather just cooperates! -
Wonderful! SWMBO and my youngest daughter have all the talent in our house. I can't draw a semistraight line or circle. Thank the heavens for Autocad!

I would love to see some images of your process!

COMET C/2022/ E3 (ZTF) - UPDATE
maw lod qan replied to paulastro's topic in Celestial Events Heads Up
Yesterday evening Heavens Above had it listed as Mag 4.8. Of course, this morning was fogged in for me. -
That's a sweet looking setup @SuburbanMak!

Hurried my morning routine so I could have a few minutes with my binoculars and the quickly departing comet. Very easy to find. One more day of work, tomorrow, and hopefully I can have clear skies to spend more time on it before its history!

COMET C/2022/ E3 (ZTF) - UPDATE
maw lod qan replied to paulastro's topic in Celestial Events Heads Up
Wonderful image Nigella! I hoped to get a quick peek at it this morning before work, had the binoculars ready, but it was too cloudy! Heavens Above is stay right on it with its position. It is really moving along now, or as we say it out in the country, "it's really scooting a boot!"! -
I'm off so last night I crashed early, 5pm. Got up at 2am, plenty of time for coffee before going out. Easily found the fuzzy ball and was quite surprised to see how much larger it looked compared to last week. Using HeavensAbove and my location it was easy jumping from the Big Dipper directly to it. We have rain forecast for tonight. I hope it moves through quickly. I've got the camera battery charged for tomorrow.

Great image! -
That is an impressive spot. I hope it behaves, the world has enough troubles without good ole Sol adding anything! Excellent images! Perhaps with me being off tomorrow the weather might cooperate so I can get a look in white light.

Excellent images! I have always wondered what ancient humans thought when the night sky began to dance? Must have been terrifying! -
I'll admit I'm not the brightest bulb in the pack. The engineering and technology is way beyond me. They made the statement that these boosters were moving slow enough to return to the Cape. I'd guess slow enough was still several thousand miles per hour. Add that they are MILES down range, then have to turn back the opposite direction they are going, to hit a perfect landing on a bullseye! Absolutely unbelievable! But also, to think I could watch the launch live on a device I held in my hand is pretty amazing for someone who remembers having to use party line phones!
-
I know his satellites are a terrible issue, but hearing them say these booster landings make the successful recoveries number 162 and 163 is eye opening! I am a big supporter of NASA and space exploration, but come on guys, 163 to 0 just shows the mentality from the old days has to change! I saw a comparison of cost per kilo with different launch systems and the Falcon 9 is down as low as 4K per kilo, from as much as 45K.
-
Hurried down to the spot on the drive and watched the launch. Took SWMBO with me this time. It was good, but needed to be a little darker. Every time I see the burns for the returning boosters I am amazed! This was a military satellite.
-
I'm always amazed seeing an image of a jet or bird crossing like this. I know it's mostly luck, but we'll done on this capture.
-
Excellent details! Looks like you are coming in to land!

COMET C/2022/ E3 (ZTF) - UPDATE
maw lod qan replied to paulastro's topic in Celestial Events Heads Up
Wednesday morning I got out with my binoculars and could see it as a nice fuzzy ball but no tail. It didn't help the moon was very bright. Today is cloudy with rain. After tomorrow I'm off all week, hopefully things will work out. -

Observing the Moon- Love it? or Hate it?
maw lod qan replied to F15Rules's topic in Observing - Discussion
I enjoy viewing the moon! It seems there is always something new to see with the terminator moving. I'll look at the full moon, but it really makes my floaters stand out!
