Could very well be the case, novice mistake. I often struggle with accurate alignment, I'll double check from now on to make sure that my targets "correct". Looks like I'll have to change the name to the Trifid Nebula now
-
Could have gotten a lot more detail with a longer exposure. The clouds were rolling in so I was only able to capture 100x10 Shots @ISO 800

Thanks for the feedback, I'm using a Celestron 102slt and a Nikon d3200 with a T-Ring adapter. Took my first photo of the Horse Shoe Nebula last night.

First Attempt At The Horse Shoe Nebula
Max22 replied to Max22's topic in Getting Started With Imaging
Thanks for the advice I used photoshop to process it after deep sky stacker. I’ll give it another go at some point with more exposures. Unfortunately, I'm limited to around 30-second exposures due to my mount being non equatorial. -

I am pretty new to astrophotography and I'm starting to get into photographing nebula's. I'm looking for some recommendations for the best magnification to photograph, say the Orion nebula. I am limited to a 102mm 660mm focal length telescope that is on a go to mount, but non equatorial. What would be the best way to photography this? Exposure length, magnification etc?

Unable to focus with eyepiece projection
Max22 replied to Max22's topic in Getting Started With Imaging
@Cornelius Varley Thanks, I would like to get more detail of the moon on planets. That's the reason that I tried eyepiece projection, in hope that I would be able to increase the magnification of the image and get more detail. -
Unable to focus with eyepiece projection
Max22 replied to Max22's topic in Getting Started With Imaging
I am running out of travel distance after fully extending the focuser outwards. I used a 25mm eyepiece, to begin with. Does eyepiece projection actually increase the magnification of the images? I've found that just using the T-ring, Saturn is just a bright star and no visible rings. -
I recently took my first images of the moon with a T-Ring adapter mounted straight on my telescope, I purchased an eyepiece projection adapter to allow me to increase the magnification for closer photos. Unfortunately, I run out of focus travel before it comes even near focus. I tried extending the focus by putting in a Barlow lens before the adapter, but to no success. DSC_0149-copy (2).pdf

Thanks to everybody who helped me out here, took a couple pictures of the moon and some of the stars. Do any of you have any recommendations for finding focus quicker, my method was trial and error, taking a picture the adjusting the focus. DSC_0018.nef

Thanks, @Bamo I've ordered an eyepiece projection kit and I'll give it a go. Should I try to achieve focus during the day first before going out in the evening?
-
@PeterCPC Your correct when I attach it to the telescope even after trying to focus, all I get is a black/brownish image.
-
@Bamo I will try the eyepiece projection method, Is it normal for a DSLR to give out blurry images when no lens is installed, or do I have some sort of settings wrong?
