  2. Our eyes are designed for stereoscopic viewing, so the eyes are slightly different, both in colour spectrum and focal length. Try swapping from eye to eye you will see a distinct difference in contrasts and minor focusing changes. If our eyes were identical we wouldn't get any true depth perception.
  3. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, comes as a crispy duck (with hoi sin sauce) and tastes like a duck then its has to be A duck Or by IAU logic, it could be a .......... Who gives a duck, it's a planet, end of.
  4. Hi Saw one of these @£75 are they any good, cant afford a dual crayford at moment, but fed up with lx90 stock focuser already so is this a good buy? "SCT to 1.25" Helical Focuser, coaxial twist Lock Adapter"
  5. I was into my 30's before I started my degree, having worked for 15 years, I decided to do a years pre study for adults getting back into education, my course was basically core A level studies in Maths, Physics and Chemistry, done full time for 9 months, I came out with two distinctions and a pass, but more importantly it give me the learning and study skills and confidence in my ability. I then took a 4 year BSc (Hons) in Applied Statistics and Computing and came out with a 2.1. I felt that the discipline of learning basically 3 A levels in one year, stood me in good standing, so never felt I was playing catch up with anyone on the course. And the study skills proved as invaluable as the knowledge. Don't know if that type of access for adults is around now, it was back 25 years ago. It was the best decision I made to delay my degree for one year, it made the next 4 years so much easier.
  6. Off course you do, don't we all! But I am still trying to find that little white lie I need to tell myself that I can believe ??
  7. A nice new Antares Versascope 10 x 60 with rings and sct mount. Mounted and tried out terrestial viewing, lovely clean crisp image, first light for it later this week ?????
  8. Looking reasonable here tonight,Clear outside app giving cloud cover 3, vis 10 and about 15°c for couple of hours So must get scope out soon to cool and fingers crossed. Need to get calibration, sensors and goto fully sorted out at least tonight.
  9. Hi, does anyone know what thread type and size/pitch is used on the 8" lx90 focuser knob, it's the round one if that matters? Thanks for reading.
  10. UPDATE, arghhh So back in Liverpool and won't auto align. Set it in home position for reference. Switched on, select automatic align, ota flips vertical while looking for level, leave it and then goes hunting north and app in like a dalek for 25 minutes before I shot it. Wonder if LNT module is budgeted. Done the usual, stripped it, tested cable rj10/11/12, never remember which one, to board with meter, no breaks or shorts in cable or bad/shorter solder on pins on board. Lights up red dot ok, so defo got power. Scope visuals great LNT back of s#!t. Even done starpatch update to 43gg and hbx reset, stuck now, any ideas anyone. Other than bin it, get cheap level and compass and do easy or two star alignment, done that and works a treat BUT if its there on scope I wanna get it working, yes I know, mule stubborn as, yes I am, so any pointers welcome.
  11. Hi all, Bit of background info first. Having problems auto aligning my Meade 8" LX90GPS. Works at home Liverpool, but not at my site in Hadnall. Doesn't do LNT, not level and never finds north, just spins around like a dalek! Thought LNT module was duff or damaged in transport. Tried everything, then noticed my phone was off north too, tried two other phones, none of the three ever showed same north at same time, even after calibration. Then to my amazement one of the phones suddenly flashed up High Magnetic Anomalies. Moved 20 metres away and ok. So upshot is that under the ground below where I can view from is either a metal dump or electric cables or some other magnetic force. Can't dig it up, decked over. Can't move further away it's beyond my fence line!!!!! So now to finders.. Can't get on with the red dot LNT module for alignment, too flimsy and to big a dot and useless for auto align as above. So want a decent optical finder, to sight and alugn manually so criteria are About £100 all in. Not straight through back can't contort any more.... So need RA but is RACI really better than just RA for the extra cost. 6x30 is it too small mag, maybe 8x50, 9x50 or look for used 10x60 or is that too big. Any ideas or what else do I need to consider, some say EPs are fixed, is this ok or not. Looked at DIY, but the mounts are soooooo... expensive too. Hope this makes sense and look forward to your help.
  12. Yes true, I had copied the wrong details, the power banks I was looking at output at 3,5,9,12v and also as car boosters/starters but are similar sizes weights. So capacity no problem and all have multiple type outlets including jacks and usb.
  13. Ok, apologies if this sounds crazy, so here goes. 1: Counter Balance track on OTA 2: Half kilo counter weight on track adjustable. 3: Power Tank / Jump starter on floor. 4: Trailing Leads causing trip hazard. 5: That all adds up to ££££££'s and extra kit to pack. Ok now my solution, or am I crazy. Aluminium T'Track attached to OTA. T'Track sliding bolt and a bracket. POWERBANK attached as counter weight/Power supply. I can they run cables to stuff mounted on OTA / Microfocuser / imaging Kit / Goto Power Supply etc. So no trip hazards, cables neat tidy on OTA, no cord wrap issue, smooth power supply, counter balance all from one piece of kit. Going to try it maybe or am I crazy. I don't have a lot of extra weight on my LX90gps 8" so about half a kilo should do it. What do you think?????? Example Powerbank: EC Technology at £37, Key Specs – Capacity: 22,400mAh; Input: 2 x micro USB; Outputs: 2 x USB; Dimensions:157 x 78 x 22mm; Weight: 439g
  14. I do some viewing in Liverpool, but looking to do most from in and around Hadnall when down there.
