  1. It was in the back garden, but not enclosed. Setting up fences is not an option in this area. I did contact the police on the Saturday morning, they did not have the resources to come look at anything. Effectively they do not look at such minor things, I wanted to file a police report, if nothing else for the statistics, but due to the Corona virus only serious offences can be filed at present, so that has to wait. I could of course rearrange things but I fear I might then loose the scope/ camera the next time. Anyway the real problem now is my wife (and maybe me) will not sleep well if I leave it out unattended.
  2. Arrrghhhh. Friday night I was imaging happily away with unusual clear weather. When I woke up Saturday morning I discovered the LapTop that sits inside a toolbox besides the mount was stolen. Cables simply unplugged and the pc gone. The mount, cameras and OTA were luckily untouched. But he did also steel the ED80 metal front cover (!!) which was lying inside the toolbox with the PC. Then I discovered the thief had left behind (on my lawn) a telescopic fishing rod, an electric chainsaw and a electric saw. Obviously stolen somewhere else, became too much to carry and he must have thought the PC was a better catch. The mount was rigged up on my veranda, and he has passed just a meter or two from my bedroom window to get to it. That totally creeps the wife out. OK - so I can easily replace the laptop. However it kind of tells me I cannot leave the scope unattended at night. And that kind of puts an end to this hobby for me. Meanwhile the clear nights fly by one after another. All this because of a drug addict who need money for the next shot. This makes me soooo angry 😡
  3. As the title says; What exposure length do you typically set PHD2 to? I would think that is the most important parameter, as it dictates how frequently corrections are sent to the mount. I typically use 3 seconds but have no reason why...
  4. Yes, good fun! *Excitingly entering birth date.... anticipating a great image* Pluto and its five moons... Sorry FLO, but I will press the cancel button on this one!
  5. To answer my own question: I was not actually running an image sequence, just tracking. I tried again, this time with a sequence active and it works perfectly. This window pops up, and the mount flips as it should 😀
  6. I am testing the NINA 1.9 meridian flip functionality (dry run inside the house) and cannot get it to work. I am using a HEQ5 mount. In NINA I have these settings: I then slew to a star just before meridian ( with NINA) , but the mount does not flip, I waited about 10 minutes after it should have flipped. EQMOD has these settings: ASCOM setup I tried both check and uncheck "Allow Auto Meridian Flip" under ASCOM setup, but the mount does not flip. Any NINA users who has this working and can point me in the right direction?
  7. Strange. I use 120MC + SW finderscope too. It loops without any problem (at e.g. 3 sec exposures) even when connected through a USB2.0 hub. Are you sure PHD2 is connecting to the correct camera? In PHD 2 check Guide menu - connect equipment. Mine look like this:
  8. Thanks for the feedback. Sorry about your neck, tooth. I have not been thinking about framing yet. I tried to rotate it 180 degrees, but that did not look right either. Agree with more Ha, it's striking how much more detail there is in the Ha stack compared to the others.
  9. My first try at the Horsehead and Flame Nebula. 20 x 120s Ha, 20 x 120s L, 10 x 120s RGB. Processed in PixInsight.
  10. True, but would small air currents in the dew shield be seen in the images? Air currents in the atmosphere I can understand is not good, but would it matter inside the dew shield?
  11. So... Ni chrome wire from China arrived a few weeks ago and I have made DIY dew heaters for both the main scope and the guide scope (esprit ED80 + finder scope). On the ED80 where is the best place to put the heater strap? I thought obviously where the lens sits, but maybe it would be more effective at the very end of the dew shield? The thinking being it heats the air inside the dew shield rather than the lens itself?
  12. Been there done that. Been there done that too. Not to mention dew on the polar scope... I find that AP is an iterative learning process with very slow progression. Slow mostly due to the very few clear nights I get at my location.
  13. Amazing build and images. Do you get snow in this location? If so how do you deal with that?
  14. Regarding filtersize, see this post:
  15. I have re-installed window on that computer. No issues now.
  16. As another newbie agree completely. And yes it is pricey, but at least it is a one off cost, and not subscription based like the trend seems to be these days. Well worth the money imho.
  17. Ok, I get the spinning Pizza/angular momentum idea, but then you have already flattened the dough beforehand. I would have thought stars that clump together to form galaxies would orbit in arbitrary directions. Obviously I am wrong in thinking that.
  18. Why are galaxies flat rather than spherical? All the matter in galaxies seem to clump into spherical objects, so why aren't the galaxies themselves spherical objects?. Just wondering if any theories explain this...
  19. Had not tried Incognito tab, did just now. Does not connect. Not going to install duckduckgo, its not important for that PC. But it annoys me big time that I can't figure this out.
  20. Yes, as mentioned I have 2 other physical win10 pc's that connects ok. So it must be something on that PC, but I cant figure out what. I just might copy the win10 VMware to one of those PC and see if it connects there. Also I do remeber that the PC that does not connect to it did so sometime in the past (before I bougt Pixinsight).
  21. I have not tried on a mobile, that was the OP. But on the my PC that will not connect I have tried the following: Does not connect in Google Chrome Does not connect In Microsoft Edge VMware running windows 10 guest (on the same PC) - does not connect in Google Chrome. But VMware running some Linux distro guest (on the same PC) does connect!!! That just makes no sense (given that vmware with windows guest does not connect). But rules out any issues in the router.
  22. I have the same issue on one of my PC's (Windows 10). I have tried everything I can possibly think of, including disable firewall etc. but no luck. On 2 other PC's (also win10) on the same LAN I do not have this problem. I have given up trying to figure this out. So if anyone has any tips, I'm interested too.
