I know that it should be like that and have no trouble with my Newtonian with two mirrors to align, but when I tried to do the same with the SCT in the dark with my screwdriver perilously near the corrector plate it didn't work out so well. At the time the star I was using also refused to stay in the middle of the fov, which didn't help, I am happy to leave the dark art of SCT collimation to those who know what they are doing. Barry

Lockie: Yes it is cheap and deliberately so. I bought it secondhand some years ago as part of a bundle which included a mount I wanted. I am much happier at F5 than F10 and could not get my head round how to set this up. I think that I effectively dis-collimated it and so a new owner has some work to do - hence the price. Barry

This image of the Leo Triplet was taken on 25 Feb using a Skywalker Skywatcher 150P (without a Coma Corrector) on an HEQ5. The camera was a modded Canon 600D with an Astronomik Visual CLS Clip filter. Guiding was with a QHY5l II and SW 50mm Finderguider using PHD2. 16 x 360s subs were stacked in DSS and stretched in Photoshop. The 25th was not the best of nights for DSOs due to a very bright moon and the gradient remains! Thanks for looking Barry

NEW Sky-Watcher AZ-GTi Wi-Fi Alt-Azimuth mount
Barry replied to FLO's topic in Sponsor Announcements and Offers
Does this mount also do basic panning between user added positions for terrestrial photography and time lapse, in a similar way to the SW Merlin Multi Function Mount? -

Hi I did a really silly thing on Friday night by leaving the ISO on my 600D at 6400 after taking a quick image to align using Astrotortilla. The resulting image from 12 x 600s subs is attached. The thing that has worried me is that there are some odd vertical lines on the left of the image, about 3/4 to the right. Could this be because I took 10 min subs at ISO 6400, or is it a problem with the camera sensor or internal reflections? The lines can just be seen on individual subs at ISO 6400 but not on 5 mins at 1600 subs or on 10 min darks at ISO6400. I have just bought the ca

Hi, Here are 3 images from last night taken as I tried out some new kit. Shamelessly overcooked to bring out data! Thanks for looking Barry Albireo Deer Lick Group and Stephan's Quintet I nearly missed the Quintet altogether through misframing but they are just there on the edge. Far too little data but I was happy just to see the fuzzies. M27 - Dumbell Nebula

Wanted: Tripod and weights for HEQ5
Barry replied to Tommohawk's topic in Expired / Closed Wanted Ads
Hi Tom, I checked the weights this morning. They are the same size and bore as my HEQ5 weights (5Kg with bore 20mm one side and 25mm the other) but without the plastic sleeve. They lock on securely to the HEQ5 bar. I also tried the HEQ5 mount on the tripod; apart from the colour I think it is identical. I live in Netheravon, which is off the A345, about 5 miles north of the Solstice Services and Countess Roundabout on the A303. Monday 11th is fine for me. I will PM the details. COD is best so you can give the tripod a check over. Barry
