I was really surprised when I opened the box, as you're right it looks like metal in all the images I can find.

On the positive side, at least it won't cause too much of a problem with balance, which is what I was initially concerned about ?.

Actually, yes, that is a plus. It is amazing how quickly scopes become unwieldy once you start strapping stuff on.

Today I received a new to me 1.25" Baader Q-Turret.

I really enjoy using my set of BCOs for WL Solar as they give excellent views, but having to keep swapping the solar continuum filter between eyepieces was becoming rather tiresome, so hopefully this item will solve that particular problem.

However, I was surprised and slightly disappointed to find that everything was plastic except the central pivot nut and bolt and the eyepiece securing thumbscrews ?.

I know that they're quite cheap but I was expecting something a bit more substantial from Baader.

I guess we'll see how it performs in practice.

Don't worry. In 10 years, all that plastic will end up either in plankton or washed up on the beach of Big Island anyway. ? It's a bit cheeky too as it does look like metal. I suspect that that was the look they were going for.

  3. Also... a little something CMOS for some OSC live view gratification (to keep the visiting spectators happy). A full frame CCD setup will come in a couple of months to give that Tak wide-field something to do.

Not sure why i'm so excited about a 102 mm scope when i own a 130 mm mini Dob and a 200 mm Go-To SCT. Guess i'm old school. Its not all about aperture...........its about the view.Hell, i don't even know what ED glass is, but i know i've always wanted an ED scope.

100mm makes for a very portable setup. I already have scopes up to a 10 inch LX200 but of which are all far to unwieldy for me to enjoy Nowadays. My 100mm will bring back my enjoyment.

The hermes guy just delivered this to me. It's a nebula red alienware m17x r2.

Now I just need to go through and download all the drivers and software needed for astro imaging (which is actually alot more than I though since I downloaded everything as and when I needed it on my old laptop).

I bought it off ebay for £430 and it sounds like there may be something wrong with the fans. They're making a rather loud clicking/ buzzing noise.

Gina I am looking at scopes as well as eyepieces, it’s the cloud that is making this happen of course.

Now if someone could invent a cloud cutting scope, that would sell well in the UK

They have already, though you may hit a few planning issues!

  7. I wonder how many keep serial numbers on a database? One good thing about our hobby, is that it's quite niche. If stolen stuff comes up for sale, it's likely to be easliy spotted. There are only so many places to sell our type of kit.

Many years ago, we were burgled. I had an expensive saxophone and, though they opened the case and saw the shiney thing, they clearly thought that it would be hard to pawn, so took a small amount of cash, and a phone instead.
