  1. I've done some more research on these, and they date to 1947 ish according to Hans seeger's book on military binoculars, so just post WW2. They were used as am aiming device with big guns.
  2. It should read and not 10 x 79.
  3. Helllo, I think you will find that these are 10 x 70 and 10 x 79. I used to have a pair back in the late 1970's. I curently have a Ross 10 x 80 battleship one in an original wood box. I would not atempt to open these for cleaning if I were you. this is a job for an expoert binocular restorer to be honest. Do you have the wood box for these ? A photo would be nice if you could take one.
  4. How is the weather doing at Kelling, any clear nights so far ?
  5. I had a similar problem regarding alignment of a Cooke Photo Visual Lens. The scope gave very good views of the moon and land based objects, but when focused on a star was out of alignment. I eventually gave the lens to Es Read to fix, and now it works fine. I also have 4.5" lens that I'm trying to adapt to a tube that gives good images of the moon and land based objects, but appears to be out of alignment hmm..
  6. Hi Nicola, I bought mine used so I think a pervious owner had solved QC issues before i got it. To be honest I've not used a coma corrector on it as I don't have one. However, I used to have one when I had an f4.2 scope, but sold it after when that scope was sold. I would agree with you it's a border line case with this scope.
  7. Hi Phil, Yes I do still have the BC 3" on the EQ3 mount and mahogany tripod that you made for it. The mirror in the 5" Gregorian is still quite reflective, so does not need repolishing fortunately. I have no idea how one would go about repolishing it though. I have used it to view land based objects and the moon and it works quite well on those.
  8. Hi Nicola, I have the very same setup that you are thinking of buying. I would say that it works very well for me anyway. the NEXUS is a great bit of kit and makes finding objects to observe very easy once aligned. There was article in Astronomy Now about 3 years ago I think. that inspired me to buy the scope. one thing they mentioned was to label the truss poles with coloured electrical tape, so you make sure that you put the scope back together with the corresponding poles, and this should mean the scope will not be far off on collimation when reassembled. Hope this information is off some help.
  9. Hi Philj, I have a few antique scopes myself as you probably know. I bought your 4" f15 and sold it, but I still have the mount here at the moment. I also love obseving with old scopes and wondering what the previous owners must have thought when they looked thtough them. My oldest large scope is a 5" gregorian with speculum metal mirror made by Edward Nerne. I have adapted an antique mount and tripod to it.
  10. Hello All, I've been banned from booking a pitch because I sleep in my car, and they say it's not allowed. I've been going to Kelling since it was first based there after it moved from Thetford. I have allways used my car and it's never been a problem before. The reason they have given me is that someone complained. obviously i'm most dissapointed by this decision, and thay are refusing to remove the ban. I'm now going to stay at Foxhills camping in weybourne, 2 miles down the road, and i'm hoping to pitch my large 150mm binoculars with someone, so I can observe from Kelling, hopefully ! I'm also wondering about the future of Kelling owing to the new management who seem to be totally unflexable with things. I've also spent many happy times there and i allways look forward to catching up with friends. Most dissapointed by this ridiculous decision by them.
  11. I'm hoping that someone on this forum might no the answer to my problem ? I have a Sywatcher AZEQ6 mount that when powered up initialises, but will not go beyond the handset displaying AZ Mode after being powered up. I've tried cleaning the contacts for the lead that connects the hanset to the mount, and removed the side pannel and checked for loose connections, but there are none. the motors do not move either when I press the appropriate buttons on the handset. I'm hoping somene out there might know the answer to this problem ? Thanks in adavance for any help. Patrick
  12. Hello, can anybody ercommend a suitable reasonably priced laptop for use with this camera ? Also, what version of windows will work best with the imaging software ? Thanks for any help. Patrick

  15. Hi Rusted, I have MK1v mount and I have bought a turnbuckle, but what is the exhaust part that you used called? Thanks, Patrick
  16. Hello, I have a Zeiss binoviewer with a I believe 1.2x corrector in front of a Zeiss Baader diagonal. Does this mean if I use a Televue x2 pwermate that I will have 3.2x magnification at the eyepieces ? I have often wondered about this.
  17. My Solarscope also gets more use than any of my others.
  18. Hello, I've succumbed and acquired one myself ! I did a swap for a C11. I also have a very fine D&G 6" f12 achro, but I thought this would be a better option for lunar and planetary imaging.
  19. I have managed to remove my green ring now. It was just a bit tight.
  20. I have tried to remove my green extension piece from my FC100DC, but I'm finding the ring ids giving a lot of resistance. Any advise please as I don't want to force it ?
  21. Hello, Does anyone have a copy of the downloadable Sky and Telescope moon map ? I tried to download a copy from their website, but the link does not work. Thanks, Patrickj
  22. Thank you for your the links. I will download these.
  23. Hello, Does anyone know of a good downloadable moon map that can be used to display the moon as seen in a particular telescope ? What I want to do is to be able to rotate the image to match the view in a telescope eyepiece when using SCT's and refractors with diagonals and straight through viewing ? Kind regards, Patrick
  24. Hello Everyone, I have an 8" reflecting binoscope that I might be persuaded to part with if anyone is interested.
  25. Peter, Would be nice if you could bring your 5" Ross triplet, so I could have a look through it. I now own a 100mm Ross triplet refractor. This is the late George Alcock refractor. Kind regards, Patrick
