Excellent job! I'm beavering away at M101, gathering luminance. It's been a while, but things seem to be working. Fingers crossed it stays clear for a bit longer...

      Uranium235

Sort of.... its the usual problem with DSLRs, the colour is never quite the same as you get with a CCD - even at ISO400 star colour suffers in exposures of 600s.

  3. Clear sky red alert for tonight!

      PhotoGav

You brave man - I'm beginning to see a constant here... If it's a mad crazy idea, Rob's on it!!!! Good luck - fab target and one that I would love to try one day, but too many 'easy' ones to pick first!

    4. Uranium235

      Uranium235

Ran out of sky on the Helix, so im now on the Pacman for the rest of the night.

      Uranium235

Congrats Gav, will keep a look out for your pic. It will be a case of me pointing at the telly while my better half wonders what all the fuss is about...lol.

    3. Uranium235

      Uranium235

It was 11pm before it started clearing, and still too much light. Might go into summer shutdown for a few weeks.

    4. hobsey

      hobsey

Good idea as the light evenings and cloud want annoy you then. I went into summer shutdown a few weeks ago and wont be getting the scopes out again until I visit a friend on the edge of the Brecon Beacons at the end of August.

  15. Shhhh.... it *might* be clear tonight. Could be a case of "smash & grab" imaging before the next run of bad weather.

      Uranium235

I think the wind has died down a bit, but will still need to keep an eye on Sat24 in case it rains.

  16. Whats going on?! 4 1/2 hours and not one dodgy sub... damn, probably jinxed it now!

      ronin

But the one you are thinking of has your name againdt it, and it needs a good home that would appreciate it, you have the same thoughts, the same ideas, the same aims in life. It was meant to be. Or take the Borg approach "Resistance is futile."

    1. goose35

      goose35

I've packed up after one 10 min tester sub and a 5 minuit tester on a new target. Due to cloud

    2. Uranium235

      Uranium235

Almost exactly the same here, just 3x5min.... then cloud.

    3. goose35

      goose35

I did a bit of processing on the 10 min sub a small area of the crescent nebula appeared so was pleasedish for my first nebula

  21. Stellarium 13.0 - not worth downloading, quite slow (and thats on a gaming laptop). Gone back to 12.2 and all is fine.

    1. Coco

      Coco

Not using CDC Rob, it took me a few sessions to get used to it, mainly navigating with the mouse. Click and drag, really missed that.

    2. Uranium235

      Uranium235

Tried CDC, but couldnt get on with the navigation, felt a bit clunky. Stellarium is fine now I have updated the comet list (having a go at c/2014 e2 next week).

    3. ronin

      ronin

13 refused to run on mine, said a missing file so had to revert to 12. Will live with the older one, but finding I do not use it much.

      nightfisher

glad to hear you have it right, for a while i thought you might have to go back to the 130pds

    3. Uranium235

      Uranium235

Ahhh, the 130 will never die ;) I'll find a way to get those two working together - even if I have to build my own adjustable saddle!
