  1. There’s something along the limb at the top of picture but that may just be atmospheric or an artefact in the image. Great image btw
  2. Last night, I was looking at the Moon with a new to me eyepiece. It was incredibly sharp, I couldn’t spot an CA along the terminator where I was focusing. There was some along the limb (yellow) but that I expect to see unless I’m focusing on the limb. Same eyepiece on the Sun in white light this morning delivering really sharp views. My feeling is that issue I had was the precision of my focusing, or lack of. The stabile tripod and fine focusing with the MEF3 seem to have been the answer. The Tak is seeing a lot more use than the dob these days. Thank you to everyone for helping me work through this. I learned a lot through the process
  3. Between the 10” Dob and Tak FC100, my top two are the APM UFF 30mm and Docter/Noblex 12.5mm. After that probably the 10mm Delos though I often Barlow the Docter with the Baader VIP too.
  4. Another little upgrade for the Tak. ClickLock for the focuser. I like to put filters on the diagonal rather than the eyepiece so this should make doing that a little quicker and easier.
  5. For me, it’s been a place to learn and share my successes and failures. There’s such a wealth of knowledge to draw on. I find the observing reports a great source of inspiration for targets to observe. There’s lots of great humour on here too which only adds to the lovely atmosphere. Big credit to the moderators who play no small part in maintaining that vibe on the forums.
  6. I’m not sure Jeremy would ever forgive either of us!
  7. *cough* look at that sad black finder on that beautiful Tak…. 😉
  8. Had my Ha scope out for this first time in months and got to see the prom. Was massive! Quick phone pic.
  9. You beat me to it. Got my Ha scope out for the first time in months and was rewarded with the huge prom!
  10. Haha perfect! It would be worth it just to regain Jeremy’s respect 😂
  11. Thanks Mark. The point on focus is actually quite pertinent as I’ve struggled a bit with focus due to a wobbly tripod. I’ve only recently replaced it with a Berlebach Uni 18. Plus I’ve just installed a MEF3 in the last few weeks. Certainly makes me wonder if what I’ve been seeing is just down to focus being slightly off.
  12. Perfect. Thanks John. I don’t think that leaves many options for an issue with the scope after that.
  13. Tried the Cheshire check again in daylight. I think it’s a bit clearer in the pic now. Looks good to my untrained eye.
  14. Thanks Mike. I’ll take it along to the next meet up of my local astro society. There’s normally a good collection of scopes there for comparison. Ok, I’ll check the diffraction rings on Polaris. Cooling might be part of the issue. I tend to look at a planet or Moon as first target when coming out so perhaps the scope has cooled sufficiently when I’m noticing the CA. I’ll try to note if it looks better after I’ve been outside for awhile.
  15. Cool, thanks John. I’ll try that next time it’s clear. Reassuring that it looks ok to you too
  16. Removed cross hairs. I think it looks ok. Hard to capture in a picture. Not sure if it works better using daylight to light up the Cheshire?
  17. Thanks all. I have a Cheshire but it’s tricky to see past the crosshairs. Looking past them I see dark green circle and a lighter green circle. Not sure if I need to try and remove the cross hairs to test it properly?
  18. Reviving this thread to try and put to bed the little niggle on CA once and for all and before warranty runs out on the Tak. I was wondering if there’s a good way to test the Tak to see if alignment/collimation is as it should be? Is it as simple as a star test or are there other things I could try? I’ve been refining my Tak setup over the past few months and I think it’s almost there now. I’d love to be able to get confirmation that all is well as I think I’ll probably stop noticing it after that 😂
  19. 6x30 finder scope for the Tak. The SkySurfer 3 has served me pretty well but not really accurate enough on its own when using higher powers and changing eyepieces. Slightly controversial perhaps not to get the official Tak version but it would have cost more than 10 times what I paid for this. There’s very little difference in size and weight between this and SkySurfer too.
  20. I run a service for collecting this type of rubbish left by the postman, Mike. No charge for you
  21. Similar to @dantro, it’s taken some time to get my Tak FC100 setup working well. The carbon fibre tripod I had originally was just not up to the job for high power. It’s only really since getting a Berleback Uni 18 that I’ve really been able to use it properly at high power. The MEF3 focuser upgrade, added recently, has been another big improvement to making it more enjoyable to use. I still notice some CA with it which I’m never quite been able to determine if the amount I see is normal or if there’s perhaps some small misalignment somewhere. I don’t regret the Tak but it’s been a journey rather than love at first sight. My 10” dob knocks it out of the park for deep sky but the sharpness and overall presentation in the Tak is much nicer. Reflectors and refractors are companions rather than competitors for me. I think I’ll always want to have at least one of each. My biggest regret is a secondhand eyepiece purchase from last year which arrived with an issue and still isn’t sorted 9 months on. Would love to go back in time to stop myself buying that one.
  22. Congratulations Dave. Great story. I’m sure the Vixen will bring you every bit as much pleasure as the Tak did
  23. The Araldite repair held up through its first session last night so looking good 👍 FLO pointed me in the right direction for grub screws which arrived today. Order is restored. I have spare grub screws if anyone else finds they need one (M2.5 3mm)
  24. Pack of grub screws to replace a missing one from my Tak MEF3 microfocuser. If anyone else is missing one then give me a shout as I have spares
