    Garden Observatory

A newly built observatory with a sliding roof made of wood and corrugated clear plastic set at an angle to facilitate the runoff of rain water. Fully electrified overhead from the house with double sockets to run the whole setup. Two piers, one with a CGE Pro and the NEQ6.
  2. Martin, please double check to make sure all the items are correct to what you want Jim
  3. Martin, here is the list of items bought from FLO, I bought them one at a time to ensure I was getting the right item before the next step and so that entailed extra postage so if you order compete set it will be slightly less: #2459126 - Telescope: RASA Adapter #2459110 - Base (Filter Chamber) #2419112 - Filter Slider: 2" / M48 #2419119 - Camera: T-Adapter The total cost was £235.80 incl P&P but as said I paid P&P for each separate item, hope this help and again sorry it is a bit late. Jim
  4. My apologies Martin I have just seen this, I will get that list for you in the next couple of days. Jim

    Corton Beach after Dark

Thanks George, turned out to be a fright more than anything else but the ladder work stays, have to put a security camera on frontage today, not too hard a job if I take my time. Was out last night, clear skies but a bit muggy, persevered and started playing, found I could not hit a target, done a couple of alignments with the StarSense but zilch. Looking at the equipment later I realised that I had put the guider scope mount on back to front duh...., another job to do today, but still I got out for a few hours and to a degree it was enjoyable Jim

    Corton Beach after Dark

You will enjoy Iceland George, had a wonderful time there a few year back, the only problem as I seen was the currency and cost but that's another story :). Yes the observatory is up and running but not me, I had been adding a security feature and I tripped and fell off the roof, caught the ladder on the way down and that crashed down on top of me, badly winded and hurt my knee, lay for a bit to check myself out and used a tree to haul myself up, no lasting damage except it's added a few years to my age :). Corton Beach after Dark

Very nice George, pity about the Yarmouth glow, I doubt if the midnight shutoff would have helped. Funnily enough today the wife mentioned a cruise to take in the Northern Light, have to think on that one :).
  8. Nice one George, was tempted to go out the other night, a nice crisp night but too much moonlight. Jim
  9. I seem to have lost the list of who has visited my  profile, any reason, please :)

  10. Yes your right BD, lesson learnt after quite a shock, I now make sure any photos on this forum have been cleansed of any info Jim
  11. You hit the nail on the head there brown Dwarf, I posted photos of my equipment and observatory a few months back after using my phone to take the photos and someone on here downloaded the photos and sent me my address in a message, was not a happy bunny. That is all now changed and security upgraded. Jim

    From the album: Garden Observatory

The 11" RASA mounted on the CGE Pro, an EvoStar 80 piggybacked with a Canon 450D and a finderscope with the QHY183 attached. to the rear of the 11" is the StarSense. The 11" is now central in the observatory, the 2nd pier is now gone, on the rear wall are all the attachments for the telescopes. I have now gone down the road of attaching a filter to the 11", this is a Baader Filter Chamber so filters can be cganged over as necessary.

  14. Unable to upload photos to album, any ideas anyone?

  15. A great night last night, clear skies, a few minutes of puff balls.  The CGE working was spot on and have started to take my first photos, nothing to write home about.  PHD2 was great, still a learning curve but once all the software and equipment comes together it can only get better :)

  16. Well solved the problem of the CGE Pro clutch bolts and their awkward handles, bought a wrench socket, 22mm, at Halfords and is perfect, sorry FLO.

  17. Great night last night, nice and clear, equipment worked well and have now got the hang of the StarSence and CGE Pro.  Took some test photographs, a tweak on the focusing will have to be done, guiding went well, have sorted out the problem of the tracking speed.   The only fly in the ointment is the clutch handles on the CGE Pro, am looking to get a spanner made to accommodate the triangular handle, other than that am now looking forward :)

  18. A reorg of the observatory, I was a bit ambitious in having two piers, have now got just the one and central.  After looking at the usage of the CGE Pro mount I have now piggybacked the EvoStar 80 instead of the StarTravel 80 giving me advantage of using the Canon 450D as well.  The reorg has given me more height on the pier but must remember to open the roof before turning the telescope upright :)

Well it had to happen, first time for opening the roof and setting up the telescope yesterday afternoon to check everything I closed the roof got so far and wondered why it was stuck only to turn around and see the telescope was in the upright position, no damage but a lesson learnt.

  19. A cloudy evening last night, I happened to look out the window and seen a nice bright moon, clear skies!!  Went out and and although there were a few puff balls I decided to open up.  Turned out to be a nice night although I am still trying to get to grips with the CGE Pro, a bit of a handful :)

Just come in from a quick Lunar session and wander about as well as finally bagging the ISS pass at 9.57 in the wide view of the ST80, very happy.
Sadly wooden hill time as work early tomorrow.
Typically a clearish night of course!
JimT have a good observing session.

Thanks Alan, good that you got out, retired here so no problem with timekeeping except when the better half requires it  :).  Have a lot more work to do before I can master the CGE Pro, it has an 11" RASA attached with the ST80 as a guide scope, had some problems with StarSense and had to get it reflashed, should be back this week.  Hopefully with that back on I can get some decent work out of this lot  :), time for bed.

      Jim

  20. There must be plenty of pickings around the observatory because at dusk the bats are in abundance. Whether the IR light in the camera draws the flying insects or they are just there, they make a meal for the bats who perform a dance in front of the camera well worth looking at instead of the television :)
