I should have clarified the sub length I am trying to achieve are 10 minutes plus! I'm sure it would be ok for a couple of minute subs as stated by Burtuk but honestly if you can afford to go for the EQ6 then I would go for it to future proof your ability to use other scopes on the mount.
I'm using a Megrez 72mm at the moment and I've got up to 20 minute exposures with good guiding (I haven't tried for longer at the moment ) so until I can afford an EQ6 I'm sticking to wide field shots of the larger nebulae and clusters! There should be more than enough to keep me going
Cheers and clear skies!

I've just had this dilemma mate and to be honest if you want to image with a 200p (which are very capable scopes for dso's) I'd go for the neq6 I have the 200p and a heq5 and I think it's pushing the limits of the mount I weighed the tube with my CCD filter wheel etc attached and it came in at 12kg which would be the astrophotography limit for an eq6 never mind the heq5! Any small amount of wind will ruin the tracking as the HEQ5 is try to track with a large sail attached to it!

Have you tried removing and reinstalling the camera drivers and phd? maybe need updated ones. I'm using PHD version 1.12.0 and the latest drivers for my Orion Starshoot autoguider (nearly the same as the qhy5) and have no problems in windows 7? Just an easy idea to start on if you havent tried it already? Is there anyone you could borrow another st4 cable from to see if it is your cable?

Dont think you HAVE to but it's best I think.
Plus it literally takes seconds to calibrate...mine takes less than a minute now I ahve it set right!

Also had this problem mate last night! Was my first try at guiding and I spent 6 hours fiddling about and swearing! it was great.
Anyway I was having the same problem nothing I did would get it to calibrate UNTIL I looked under the MOUNT header, then I chose "on camera" I think that was it anyway!
and then it would guide! and calibrated within about 7 steps.

That was a really interesting read mate, thanks for taking the time and effort to put it together.
Really made it easier to understand distance and speed !

Yup I'll also add my bit...Ordered Rigel quickfinder after discussions with Steve (He rang me back when he was engaged, how nice was that!). No problems with service .
Fast and friendly! Many thanks.
Oh by the way, don't you have F.L.O Car Window/Scope stickers
