  1. I've got a Green Witch scope cover and had no problems with it so far - it definitely doesn't let rain through. I've left mine outside a couple of times in pretty bad rain and the water seems to have pretty much run off. Might be worth checking with Green Witch.
  2. Hello and welcome, Dan - hope you get out soon to enjoy your scope.
  3. Thanks, @rockystar - I ended up going to the Beacon Fell car park but it was clouded over anyway so didn't see anything. Will maybe try Dunsop Bridge sometime in the future. Thank you!
  4. Hi @rockystar - where is the best place to observe in Forest of Bowland? Hoping to go up there this weekend weather permitting. Thanks!

    Hi there

Hi and welcome, Michael - I'm a newbie also. Hope you enjoy SGL!
  6. Thanks, @Adamar98 and @glowjet! I will certainly consider coming along to York - sounds great.
  7. Yes, very sad to witness the end - but some great science done there.
  8. What a friendly group you are! Thanks for the welcome everyone - so glad I joined.
  9. Thanks, @Fozzie - I'll consider trying to get there for the October session. Would be good.
  10. Yes, @Fozzie - I agree, it's a shame, especially as we do get enquiries from people who are interested in observing. I think we possibly need to link up with another society - in the short-term - to try and offer observing sessions in or near Harrogate, if that's possible. We'll see anyway. Yes, I think you're right about Leeds meeting at Eccup - I'm considering joining Leeds or York so that I can get out observing more and learn from more experienced observers too.
  11. Hi @Sirius Starwatcher - the problem is that we are a very small group (some of whom are elderly) and most members don't have telescopes. I think they're happy to listen to speakers but are not overly interested in observing. So we don't have the necessary 'sky knowledge' (for want of a better phrase!) to hold any observing sessions. As I said, I'm hoping this will change. I'm keen to learn the sky better myself so fingers crossed.
  12. And I'm not posh at all - I fit right in
  13. Harrogate Astronomical Society meets at Harlow Avenue Community Centre (The Green Hut), Harlow Avenue, Harrogate, HG2 0AS on the last Thursday of the month at 7.30pm (excluding August and December). We would love to welcome guests or those who may wish to join the society. I will post details of speakers here and anyone in the area is welcome to come along: Thursday 29th September 2016 John Baruch of Bradford AS is giving a talk on 'A new era in astronomy'. Thursday 27th October 2016 Sam Falle will talk on 'Supernovae'.
  14. Hello, I've been interested in astronomy for a few years now but have only recently started to try and do some observing - so I'm not fully familiar with all the wonders of the night sky as yet. I'm a member of Harrogate Astronomical Society, which unfortunately doesn't hold observing sessions at present (I'm hoping this will change if we can attract more members who are keen observers), and I also attend astronomy events when I'm able to. For instance, I attend - and thoroughly enjoy - Astrocamp in the Brecon Beacons, Wales and also often go to astronaut lectures, etc. I look forward to chatting to people on here and finding out more. Best wishes, Andrea.
