  1. How does the Starsense fit into things, is it just used when you won't be doing any guidance?
  2. That's a great write up SonnyE. It gives me something to aspire to and breaks it into manageable chunks. Yes the wallet will need to be on alert a few years ago I got the bug in dslr lenses, I thought that was expensive but it pales compared to astrophotography! Hi Sonny E, Thank you you for taking the time to write up such a clear response. As you say it sounds like you are ahead of the curve on me and it's likely I too will be 'assimilated' in the coming years. Could I ask, once mechanically set up, what's your regime for Astro imaging? Do you just confirm date and time on the handset and then polar align on the PC? Same for star alignment, do you do that on the PC and then move over to a guiding app such as PHD? Seems a lot of people had trouble with the PC sticks, however you sound like you've managed to get yours all up Andy running with team viewer, which stick did you go for? I'm guessing you're running W10 Pro. Thanks again for responding and any and all advice from those who've gone down a similar rabbit hole is gratefully received.

  4. Found one in the cable pile, connects ok, will see how i get on. Thanks Davey-T.
  5. Ok, well that was the original question i asked. With equipment as listed - CGEM DX, PHD2 Laptop, QHYL-II Mono camera, 127mmed with450d. What are the cable connections for pulse guiding? Again a diagram would be really helpful. Thanks again.
  6. I was hoping it was that simple. This allows for pulse guiding?
  7. Hi All, newbie guiding question here. Does anyone have a clear diagram or description of the correct cable from and to connections to auto guide with a CGEM DX, PHD2 Laptop, QHYL-II Mono camera? I'll be using a 450D hung off the back of a 127Ed, so would like to run that from the Laptop as well. I'm a little confused on whether i connect the QHY direct to the auto guide port, whether i connect from the Laptop to the hand controller, etc, etc. A picture or description would be very helpful and save much frustration and possible expensive errors! Thanks All.
  8. Sorry SSA Celestron StarSense Autoalign. http://www.celestron.com/browse-shop/astronomy/accessories/navigation/starsense-autoalign
  9. Ok, so is the SSA redundant once i go the guiding laptop route? Save for using if i'm doing visual only and don't bother with the laptop?
  10. Hello All, I've finally decided to commit going down the rabbit hole that is imaging (DSO) and would appreciate some clarification. Current Kit. CGEM DX : ES 127ED CF : SKY Q Wifi Link : Starsense Auto align : IR Modified 450D : iPad Sky Safari. I've avoided Imaging as I'm time bound and am averse to having to set up a laptop and all that entails. I've been looking at stand alone auto guiders, but i think i've convinced myself that they will still be a compromise compared to a laptop and finder scope/QHY5L-II Mono/PHD. So Questions.... 1/ As i said, i'm time bound (hence using the SSA) If i do imaging, will an auto guider setup with laptop simplify the Polar alignment process? i.e. Polar align using the guide cam and a laptop using something like sharp cap? 2/ Again, if i have an auto guider and Polar Align with it and then use PHD for guiding, does the SSA become redundant?(Can i sell it to fund Guiding bits?) 3/ As i already have the SSA, does it make more sense to use this and use it for alignment and then have the guiding cam/PHD take over? If i have to rehash or repurpose my kit, happy to do that, but i'd like to do the basics just the once if possible. Laptop/PC to control things will be a different post. Thanks for help all.
  11. After an mgen mark 2. thanks all
  12. Hi, Newbie question here. Took some pics with my IR filter removed 450D last night. Is there a preferred method for removing the red cast form the images in LightRoom? Attached is jpeg of the raw file, so no editing.
  13. Hi all, recently got hold of an explore scientific 127 carbon fibre APO, running it on an AVX mount, looking at general AP with a 450d hung off the back. I want to add an autoguider but am concerned about weight, what would people recommend, budget 2 to 300. forgot to add, I have the field flattener/reducer as well. I don't have a finder at the moment, so something that I could use as a finder for visual then pop in the guide cam for AP would be ideal. thanks for help all
  14. I have one of these T Adaptors which has a barlow i can either use or not, connected to a CR1 50mm Focusser using the 8inch installation kit. So i can create an image train but cannot get it to focus. All i get are images of the secondary mirror and spider.
  15. Hi all, I have a Advanced VX mount with the C8N Newtonian OTA. Could someone point me to what I need to mount a 450D to the focusser on this please? I have replaced the stock focusser with a moonlit crayford (50mm) and have already purchased a t adaptor and the celestron t camera adaptor with Barlow lens. thanks for the help all.
