  1. No plenty of RAM and memory available, (I use an external drive), the actual stack only took about an hour, I'll take another look at Siril it's been a while since my last look.
  2. Thanks for that link, it concentrates on error messages and I'm not getting any message. The stack of 1250 stacks ok, it just won't do more. Thanks Malcolm I'll give those ideas a run. I might try that, bu t in all honesty I just cannot get on with SIRIL, it drives me mad for many reasons, but I might try it again. There may be something in that but its a huge coincidence that 1250 is 80% of my total which is the default amount. Thanks all for the advice. Cheers, Jeff
  3. Hi all, I tried stacking multiple data sets in DSS today and initially opted to stack 90% of 1563 light frames in total. No matter what I tried it only stacked 1250, which is 80%, (the default number in DSS), is it possible to stack more than that. I did it in 5 group tabs and made sure to change the 80% to 90%. Thankyou in advance, Jeff
  4. Hi Seelive, That fixed it, I tried bicubic first which was better but still not perfect and then bilinear which was perfect. I don't really understand what the difference is but at least it worked. Thankyou both for the advice. Cheers, Jeff
  5. Definate, I had a dew heater on it, sorry forgot to mention it
  6. Thanks for the reply Elp. In terms of transparency it probably wasn't perfect, (is it ever?), but I couldn't see anything obvious in Bortle 4. I appreciate the stars are less round towards the edges but this is the same set-up I always use with no issue, and if it was the stars near the edges why has it only affeted one corner I wonder? I should have listed my set-up in case it helps troubleshoot, I am using a WO73 Zenithstar with a WO field flattener and an astro modded Canon 650D all sitting on my HEQ5, no guiding at all. It's also worth mentioning that I've imaged the previous night under identical conditions and captured the Andromeda Galaxy with no issue. Reviewing the lights showed nothing obvious other than the occasional aircraft or satellite. Thanks for the advice so far, any more ideas please let me know 😀 Cheers, Jeff
  7. Hi everyone, Can someone help explain what has happened here? This is a stack of 89 x 90 second lights with darks, bias and flat etc. I'm using DSS V 5.1.1 and haven't had this problem before. I've checked all the lights and apart from a few aircraft and satelitte trails there are no problems and I stacked 80% and 95% to see if that helped. Below are a single frame and the DSS output. If anyone can advise me I'd appreciate it. THankyou, Jeff
  8. Hello all, I think the astrophotography gods owe me some clear skies as yesterday we emabrked on our family holiday to the south coast. We arrived and shared a nice meal with family and then returned to our hoilday rental and settled down in front of the TV and watched a progamme on the JWST in which they talked about the fact that the JWST had 344 single points of failure that had to work to achieve the mission. Whilst watching, this prompted my mind to idly tick off all the kit I had brought down, telescope, check....cameras various, check,....HEQ5 mount head, check....HEQ5 mount legs, check....bolt and acessory tray to fix them together................b****r 😂 Quick discussion, look on Amazon, nope, right son and I set off at 22:00 to recover the AWOL object returning at 02:20 due to M25 closures on way back, I had afterall planned the holiday for this week due to absence of moon even though we need to make another return journey this week to get daughters A level results, all agreed with 'The Boss' of course. With all these sacrifices this must guarantee clear skies right? 😂 Now we've all laughed at my misfortune, has anybody any similar stories, what absurd lengths have we gone to for this hobby and should we in fact earn clear skies credit? Cheers, Jeff
  9. Excellent, thankyou John
  10. Hello all, Does anyone know if, or where I can find data relating to the brightness of SN2023IXF? I've seen one entry that says it started to dim on the 10th June but want to find more offical information. I'm trying to decide whether or not to take my SW200 Explorer on the annual family holiday to re-image it, but if I do we have to take 2 cars which doesn't go down well if I don't use it 😂 Thankyou in advance. Jeff
  11. I know, its strange. I've tried it on my phone tonight and it works fine so there must be something in my laptop, I might try clearing the cache and see if that helps at all. Cheers, Jeff
  12. Thanks Freddie, yes I already use Heavens Above and of course it shows the track of a pass relative to the night sky but not sure it is accurate enough for a transit. Cheers, Jeff
  13. Thanks Keith, I can't find transit prediction on there but I do like the website, I'll put that in my favourites thankyou. Cheers, Jeff
  14. Kon, Pete, Thankyou. That is the one I have been trying to use when I found Calsky was no more. However I'm not sure it is working as designed for me, perhaps you can clarify your experience for me. For example there are auto select and select from map options, neither of which work for me. If I enter the co-ordinates manually (which I am happy to do) and hit calculate it moves to the calculating page but never seems to come up with results, either positive or negative, it just keeps saying calculating, how long does it typically take for you? I am only searching for a week as a test. The instructions on the site say that the date range defaults to today + 20 days but again not for me? Thankyou, Jeff
  15. Hello all, Can anyone recommend a user friendly transit predictor, as I used to use Calsky but it would appear that it is no longer active. Thankyou in advance, Jeff
  16. Thanks Budgie1, I did think that as well. Thanks Malcolm, certainly the ability to use USB would be preferable. Thankyou both for your advice. Cheers, Jeff
  17. Thanks for that information. Is there any relevence to adding the word Computerised to the EQ6 R Pro do you know? Cheers, Jeff
  18. Hello all, Could someone help me understand the difference between SkyWatcher EQ6 PRO SynScan Equatorial Mount and EQ6-R PRO SynScan Computerised Equatorial Mount please. Clearly the word computerised is key, but what does that mean. It has a synscan controller already so not sure. I think all both can be plugged into a laptop to use laptop based guiding, and image capture, or am I wrong on that? I've looked online but can't find a definitive explanation. Thankyou in advance, Jeff
  19. I'll try a stack with darks and see what effect that has on it.
  20. Thankyou It is a Canon 600d, is that a general rule or specific to certain types of Astro I wonder?
  21. Mm, interesting, thankyou for that, out of interest heres my edited result, lights only nothing else, I'm happier than a dog with two tails as it's my first modded camera image....
  22. 😂 Thanks anyway, I might try a stack with no flats in it and see. I'm just pleased that I'm finally able to capture the red so much better, big step forward 😀 Cheers, Jeff
  23. Lights stacked and balanced in PS, all ok....
  24. I have got Siril but really don't get on with it. I have just tried stacking only the lights frames and that has worked. The individual frames are alright, I have always had problems with flats both taking them and stacking them I'm not sure what is wrong with my technique but I wouldn't be surprised if that is the problem again.
  25. Hi everyone, I'm stacking my first image taken with my astro modded camera and its not stacking well. I did a quick stack with 22 lights and got a really good result. I've now tried with all 160 lights, 67 darks, 44 biases and 52 flats as well. The screen shot below shows the result, the lower half of the image seems alright but the top half is out, as can be seen in the top left when I hover over one star. I've done it twice now, once with a 2% threshold which was about 10,000+ stars and a second time with a threshold of about 50% which gave approx 500 stars but the result was the same. Does anyone know what might be going on? Cheers, Jeff
