  1. Many thanks for the warm welcome. One thing that's been confusing me a bit - what is collimating and how is it different from balancing the telescope? Thanks for your patience
  2. Hello I've had my Skywatcher 130 for a week and I think I'm hooked. I've managed to take the best photo of my life (See below) and it just makes me smile - I've shown it to just about everyone I know ;-) (Samsung S6, Skywatcher Explorer 130 with yellow filter) I'm realising that there's so much to learn not to mention a whole new language.... Anyway, this site seems to be so friendly and welcoming I'm sure I'll pick up loads of tips and hints. Hoping to meet some other stargazers nearby.
  3. Like many others on this this thread I'm a total novice but would love to meet others to pick up tips and share experience (obviously I don't anticipate anyone getting anything useful from me yet ). I'm in Wetherby but happy to travel to Harrogate, Knaresborough, York etc. Just noticed that this thread stopped over a year ago - I do hope there's someone out there..... Hellooooo?

    First Attempts

Second time using Sky Watcher 130 with yellow filter I managed to get this shot with my smartphone - am ridiculously pleased with it! Amazed at the level of detail seen on the moon's surface. I may be hooked....
